North Wright Airways
I just graduated from College and took a month to go traveling. Now i am getting serious about looking for jobs. Many the students in previous years and a couple from my class have found success at North-Wright Airways in Norman Wells. A few of our instructors recommended us sending in resumes to them. I am unfamiliar with the company and looking for all possible insight from people who have worked there or people who currently do. Looking for information on job conditions, social conditions, and accomodations. Any other information related to the company would be extreamly valuable.

I have thought about it and decided to delete my post. I dont want to cause any friction here even though what I had heard, came from one of their own pilots. Bottom line is that I put it out there because someone asked and if it is too controversial then its gone.

Deleted and appologies if anyone is upset. That was not the intent. To make it clear, I was only reporting what I had heard from one of their own. If things are as "trey kule" says then I'm glad to hear it and it sounds like it would be a good oportunity for someone starting out.
A point to keep in mind though, and this is a general thought not referring to anyone in particular, but, just because something doesn't exist now doesn't necessarily mean thats how its always been.

What the hell... I've had a few beers.
I believe that NorthWright would be an awesome place to work. They have great airplanes that, if you do things properly, you'll be Captain on all of them... and in a relatively short period of time. And you fly lots. And living in Norman Wells or Deline or Ft. Good Hope, you'll want to be working lots.
Now, I'm not sure who their CP is now, but back in the day when I worked for their competitor, I honestly thought that guy to be an absolute loser, through and through. If its still the same guy, I'm probably right, as he hasn't found anyone good to hire him... or hire him and keep him, I should say. Some of the stories I still tell in the cockpit today are about coversations I've had with that guy, and they still make me roll my eyes. 4 minutes back from the airport, FSS would ask me if its ok to have him depart infront of me. I'd oblige, and he'd just sit in position until I was forced to do a go around... after being told by FSS to move it along, to boot. Or, if I had to get things moving to get back to base before dark, he'd sit on the runway and wait, knowing full well that I was pressed for time, goading me by saying, "In a hurry for something?" He'd just clog the runway until I'd say something slightly more polite than, "If you're having a hard time figuring out how to take off, or sorting out which levers do what, I can take an intersection departure infront of you." Then he'd begrudgingly start moving, knowing that he hadn't delayed me enough to make me leave my pax behind. A few more encounters like that led me to the opinion that he was simply a malicious @sshole. But, in his defence, it'd probably be hard not to become that way if you find yourself as WW's Cheif Minion.
And the owner & his wife, well there's another story. If you're workin' for him he probably looks out for you. But if you're a competitor, well get your video camera out, because you'll have some of the strangest encounters of your life. I actually heard that he had an ex-pilot for the company I was working for actually drop him with a single punch on the ramp in Deline. And all this pilot was trying to do was get in his airplane when buddy came over and started freakin' out because he HATES his competitor. I seen the guy freak out, too, and its hard to keep a straight face with all that white foam forming at the corners of his mouth.
All the pilots that they had working there seemed like a good group, though. I only ever really met one loser out of the entire group they had, which is probably lots better than most other companies. I got to reckognize most of them, and I'd chat with them whenever we were holding at the same place. And that, really, is what would make it a good place to work... the people. You probably won't be bored much, and there will be plenty of people to get into trouble with. And the flying will be some of the best that you ever do. Probably one of the better ops to get a start with in the country, as you can stay there for several years and keep advancing. My 2 Cents.

i tried to be quiet, but here it goes.
the old chief pilot is gone, now working in alberta. not a bad guy depending on which day it was.
the next guy was there for quite a while, and knew the ropes, very nice guy, no problems at all.
as for racism, i have seen it, too well. the "head of maintenance" if you can call it that is the biggest FUC$%NG pig i have seen, or spoken to. threatening to cause him lots of harm does the trick, and as far as someone "ethnic" working there, never saw it, and i have been here a while. The owner or head co.k smoker is the man himself, and foaming at the mouth is the least of his worries. after some anger management classes, which i'm not sure he ever finished, he is still the worst "man" i have met in the north, next to his wife. that alone turns anyone off the company.
what else do you want to know? great company...great experience.... big deal, a twin otter and a 99, not many of those in canada, so yeah, make sure you run there right away after flight school. since there is no hiring going on at companies which don't threaten their employees........no hiring these days at all.
best of luck brother, just don't quit flying after you meet the commander in chief. and pass my condolences to those who haven't figured there are aircraft south of yellowkinfe.
cheers
