Post by COUG »

An Air Canada Jazz RJ just shot 2 approaches on rwy 25 at YMM and missed twice. It is now on it's way back to Calgary. There are going to be alot of angry passengers...

Overshoot just for the hell of it or did they have a good reason???? Passengers are always pissed when the aircraft does not land but they are really pissed when it crashes.

WOW!

That's phenomenal!

I didn't realize that aeroplanes actually overshot.

This is news? The ILS is down, they shoot the best available approach, and don't bust the minimums to get in. What's the story, that Jazz pilots won't risk your life to look like they're doing a good job?

Anyone with insight as to why the ILS is U/S for two months?

If those workers are on the runway centerline, they're in the localizer critical area. Anything the size of a pickup truck or bigger will throw it off.

Yea. The NOTAMs could just be out of sync, though, or the WIP one will get updated on the 2nd. Anyway, they probably can't have it up during the day because of the WIP, and if they leave any stuff around they can't have it up at night either. If they've moved alot of dirt around, they'll need to get it rechecked before it goes back in service. Went through the same sorts of headaches here in YTH for the last year and a half.

Yeah, well the other day missed at YFC when it was only 100 and 1/8th, twice as a matter of fact.

Didn't have the visual reference despite doing a PMA, that is the way it is, I'm not worried about it.

Fly safe.

Overshoot

Post by CoolGuy »

The Significants of this post is I could see the planes lights and I could see it pull up and overshoot. I am not sure what was the problem. I could have told them on the radio that they did break through instead of going back to Calgary.

It can be a shitty situation at times. You can break out right over the runway, but at that poing it's too late. Plus, for my company at least the most approaches they allow you to do is 2 before going to your alternate.

It's Jazz, this isn't legitimate controversy cuz they know what they're doing. But i'm sure they would have appreciated you assisting them from the ground.
