LWIS?

I noticed some lovely places around NWO (like CYLH) are now equipped with something called LWIS. I have determined through trial and error that this is simply a simple AWOS station... if they work then I say put more of them around.

Do you know if there are plans to install LWIS at other airports and have them coupled to that robot-transmitter-voice so we can listen?

I also noticed that (at least in a recent CFS - haven't checked the latest) that at either Sachigo or Muskrat there is a note 'LWIS - See Comm' but there is nothing under the 'Comm' section. Is there a freq for that one or is it still being implemented?

Muskrat Dam was corrected in the 03 Aug 06 CFS. You should check out the Nav Can website www.navcanada.ca for updates on LWIS installations with voice generators. I think the VGM's are going to be on all future AWOS and LWIS. I don't know where to look on the website but start with level of service. Cheers.

Newest CFS (as of last week) for Muskrat Dam now has a frequency listed for the LWIS with a voice generator module. I would guess the last CFS just ommitted the frequency.

I believe the plans are to continue to add LWIS to various places but Idon't which places are due for one. It might be included on the level of service aeronautical study on the navcanada.ca website.

this will be Enviroment Canada that handles this stuff. Even FSS do contract weather for Enviroment Canada. We do the Obs and they pay NavCan for it. Check EC's website, probably more likely to find it there.

I'm too lazy to count, but got a couple dozen hits doing a "find" "LWIS".
