What's the future for Encore ?

Post by RobertChow »

I've heard some rumors that Westjet could be trying to get rid of Encore in the future ? Is there any possibility it could happen ?

It's been floating around for a while, but I guess once the pilots on the One List are off to mainline or leave the company Encore will fold into Pacific Coastal with about 15-20 tails maximum.

I've heard the "Pasco will take over Encore Tails" a number of times, but as someone who has worked at both, I find it a little hilarious. While stranger things have happened, why would a small airline operating 5 Saabs for WJ that is continually challenged with hiring decide that bringing in 15-20 Q400s would be a financially responsible decision? Pasco is a private, family owned airline that has always been cautious with its growth. Suddenly doubling the fleet and increasing flying 5 fold while needing to staff for 4 times the pilots seems highly unlikely.

The immediate future is that there is an informal picket this Friday.

Not sure if that's a typo or a joke, but it's officially an "informational" picket.

You're right it is informational, and I suppose it is formal as well. So yes bring your best snow suit I guess.

FWIW - the rumors around these parts is talks were happening with CMA.

I believe it eventually Encore will be split off and sold - and possibly part of the maintenance department as well. The mechanincs talks are a mess from all reports and a shutdown will happen end of April. They are trying to push through our merger and all so they can release their IPO - make money off it before selling the main company.

After all is said and done Encore will be part of WestJet. Sunwing integration will take place and everyone at WestJet, Encore and Sunwing will hold a position their seniority will hold. Some Sunwing pilots could end up at Encore…Mainly the cadets that don’t meet WestJet requirements.
