Too young for a job?

Hi
For context, I’m currently 18 years old, and about half-way to finishing my CPL.
I was told recently that many employers would not hire a pilot in their teens, whether that be for insurance or other reasons. Just wondering if anybody knows how much truth there is to this? Thanks!

Nonsense. I started flying at 18 as did several friends. The part about insurance is especially BS. I was flying a $1M airplane before I could rent a car. Just show up work hard and act professional.
(BTW I’m curious who told you this. Hopefully not your flight instructor.)

Not an issue if you show up looking professional and act accordingly.

I asked the same question here in 2010. Man I’m getting old. Your age won’t hold you back but immaturity will. Act professional and don’t be an idiot and you’ll be fine.

Thanks for the reply, very encouraging to hear. It wasn’t my instructor, it was actually a pilot I had talked to who is flying for a 703 op.

It’s illegal to discriminate based on age, Canadian Human Rights Act. If there’s a bonafide and legit reason then there are exceptions.

I know many 18-19 year old CPL holders that have been hired to fly.
