Stressful on my second attempt on class 4 flight instructor flight test

Post by TableInstructor »

Hi All

I am about to have my second attempt on my class 4 instructor rating. Some background my class 1 is a regionally well-known instructor with the high passing rate on the class 4 candidates that he trained. Before my first attempt my class 1 said I will be fine, as I wasn't doing that bad during the class 4 training, and of course I perform up to his high standard. And the result my first attempt wasn't successful (obviously). After the flight my class 1 and the examiner had some :smt014 because of the slightly difference understanding on the FIG. Me and my class 1 both worked hard with some extra flights and ground, and now he believes I am ready for another attempt. However I was scheduled with the same examiner again. I am already quite stressful about it. Any tips to let me overcome this? Thank you for the help

As with Bede, I'm interested as to what your interpretation discord is with the FIG? No judgement at all, just curious.

Mostly if you trust your class 1 and they are as renowned as you say (not as they say) and you've done the extra training, it doesn't matter if you have the same examiner. In fact it may be to your benefit.

But I agree about the issue regarding the FIG. It is gospel and has to be adhered to as per TC requirements. So, without more info, not sure where the disconnect happened between the examiner and your Class 1?

But if it's resolved, trust yourself. I've failed a few times exams and although felt super sorry for myself and nervous re-doing - I also completely understood my lack of knowledge was dangerous and especially if you're into teaching. Last thing people need is a terrible instructor.

Also ask your examiner questions. When I did mine, I had my in-flght lesson book I laborouously prepared and was afraid (but did!) Ask if I could refer to it during the lesson to regroup. Funny now I think how afraid I was but it's natural.

Good Luck! Lots of spaces for FIs!
