CPAER Question: Pressure Systems

Post by rse1 »

Hello, all. I recently came across a question in meteorology while practicing some exam questions that went like this: "A high pressure passes north of you in an eastward direction. What wind change can you expect where you are?"

I was referencing this image:

I just wanted to clarify so that I have a full picture. The correct answer was NE to SE. So given:
  • it passed east of me, it would have been SE to SW?
  • It passed south of me, it would have been SW to NW?
  • the question had asked about a low pressure system passing north of me, it would have been SW to SE?
Thank you, everyone.

I read that to look like this. If you're the red star, and the arrow is the wind. Passing north of you, eastward

Oh perfect! I really needed the visual aid. This makes sense. Thank you for taking the time to draw this out!
