“IFR practice approaches not authorized into… CYKZ” ? Guess I won’t do a low and over over the new warehouses…

A lot of this is gonna tie into the Poor Service thread viewtopic.php?t=212620&start=40

I heard rumour the other day that Confed up in YQT shut down their IFR program because they couldn't get any training done due to NOTAMs like this one. Unverified rumour, so I'm happy to be corrected. It makes sense though. Lots of commercial operators in YQT head over to Geraldton or Atikokan for training.

Maybe the NavCanada BOD, with all the airline members on the board, can push for fewer restrictions at training airports and get themselves more pilots.

No, they'll get the pilots anyway. It has been happening for over 10 years:

It just got worse over COVID due to lack of training. This is what the airlines want...low fees and barely acceptable service for themselves. You can either put up with it, or alter your flying to avoid it. I did the former for a long time, but recently did the latter and my flying is now much more fun.

Haha, looks like CYKZ isn't having any practice approaches today! Low and slow it is then, keeping an eye out for those warehouses

(Just make sure to stay safe and follow ATC instructions!)

It seems that's true. There are rumors that YVR may completely decommission this runway. Probably once or twice a year, when the winds really kick up from the south, it gets some movement.

If you're looking for alternatives, consider checking nearby airports that allow practice approaches or coordinating with ATC for any specific training areas. slope game

Adding system capacity with ADS-B, but can't realize that capacity due to the controller shortage.

ADS/B has changed the game in northern airspace and over the ocean which is where the biggest gains were to be made. That is where the capacity was always going to be increased with adsb

Does NavCanada have the controllers available to utilize that increased surveillance capacity?

In those specific airspace types staffing is much better than in lower level units in busier airspaces and busy tower/terminals. So yes, adsb is being fully utilized to increase efficiency in high level northern airspaces and over the ocean.
