DEC E2. Still hiring OTS?

Post by IndianJones »

Any news on DEC E2 OTS hiring?

Or are they filling up internally.

Well they're definitely not filling up internally, I can guarantee that.

Hiring has slowed for the short term on the jet though. The engine issues are the culprit. It'll pick back up when that problem is resolved, Porter is still buying a lot of jets

They're still focusing on hiring First Officers so that the seats are more properly balanced. Sounds like the upgrade program is imminent.

They are still hiring OTS DEC. Might be slightly longer processing time though.

Porter is focusing on hiring FOs and internal upgrades for now. I'm sure DEC hiring will resume in a few months.

Our DEC window closed a few months back, just before you applied as per your AVCANADA post. Upgrade Program started and I think for now DEC will stay closed for foreseeable future as we have more internal transfers onto the jet.

Things change faster here than a politicians position, so don't fret.

Are you in a good spot right now to wait it out?

Thanks for the update.
I am actively looking for work!
I can also apply for DEC Q400 if that helps me in getting on the E2 down the line, but having read the posts for senior Q captains already waiting for a move, it seems like a long wait.
I am mainly looking for jet time as I have none in the 4900 hours experience.

It would certainly be a long wait. Glacial pace of transfers (though starting to move). If youre in a rush to get into the left seat of the E2 (financial constraints, want a certain base, etc) then I dont think the Q is the way to go.

As a ramp attendant? The poster only has 4900 hours with no jet experience. My colleague has much more than that and Jazz hasn’t offered them a position.

That sounds like an issue with the candidate, not the experience.

If you have no jet time and 4900 total hours, you would not be viable for DEC E2. Likely you may even fall short for DEC Dash 8, but there is more demand there, so you can always try. You'll have more luck going right seat E2, for the moment and then waiting for the left.

Best of luck IJ.

That’s possibly the case. Every member of our team enjoys working with them, absolutely no issues. Maybe hiring committees look for the old school type where it’s my way only. The type we get shown each year in CRM class of not to be.

Deleted my post. I read the email wrong.

It seems like it’s still kinda slow, yes. Might be better to hold out for the E2

Honestly, apply to be right seat. You will get the valuable jet time, learn the operation and when the time comes your literally in the same position.

While you have 4900 hrs, without jet time you’re going to most likely have a hard time getting DEC.

Pay for the right seat is pretty descent, couple days of OT a month and FOs are easily breaking 100k first year.

Plus you get that all important seniority number,

And raises to come shortly I’m sure.

Does TT 3950 with 2000 right seat Jet time qualify for DEC? PIC time only on Metro, about 550.

We have been told no DEC for foreseeable future for E2. Flow from Q /upgrades should staff remaining positions for the next while.

Could be true. They’re not offering position to a long time King Air training captain whose respected, gets along with everyone throughout the organization and all flight crews have nothing but positive things to say about them.
