Hello!

I've read through the FAQ and this isn't really a post on how to apply for a pilot spot in Antarctica, I was more just curious if anyone on the sub knows or are themselves pilots with experience flying there. I'm a relatively new US based pilot (Just got my multi and CFII this month, around 300 hours so far) and I'm extremely interested in flying either supply or with the BAS team as a survey pilot.

Based on my research of how rotations work it seems like there's a career choice for me of either doing this or being an airline pilot, I'm hoping that speaking with someone who has Antarctic aviation experience will help me make a more informed decision.

The two biggest pilot groups down south are Borek, and BAS. Both require right to work . Also 300 TT might get you a rhs in an twitter, but normally those spots will go based on seniority to people already completing 1-2 seasons. Not to put a damper on you, just stating facts

If you have significant time on twin otters or dc3 on skis and have a Canadian licence, it may be possible to do a contract with Borek or Enterprise. I believe BAS requires an EASA licence.

Could also join the New York Air National Guard to get on the “skier” hercs out of McMurdo.

Just Curious! This post really makes me miss Bob. Bob was a great mentor, teacher and friend. I really enjoyed our beers at the "Port O Call", our interesting chats, the flying and life advice. I miss him. Even after I left Borek, we continued to stay in touch. I spoke to him about a week before the accident. One of these days when I'm done chasing metal and money, I hope to give back and mentor the next generation the same way Bob did.
