$215,000–$290,000 a year

Description

Being part of Air Canada is to be part of an iconic Canadian symbol that connects Canada from coast to coast and to the world. A multiple award-winning organization for its people, products and services, Air Canada is a global champion that is among the 20 largest airlines in the world. Let your career take flight and Fly the Flag, by joining our diverse and vibrant team at the leading edge of passenger aviation.

Air Canada serves the most comprehensive global network in Canada flying to 180 destinations, spanning six continents. We are proud to operate the largest widebody passenger fleet by percentage in North America. Our growth plans include adding 80+ aircraft to our fleet in the next 5 years, including the largest widebody aircraft order in Canada.

To support Air Canada's comprehensive commercial network, we operate a total of seven fleet types, ranging from the Airbus A-220 to the Boeing B-777. This provides unparalleled opportunity for Air Canada pilots to fly state-of-the-art aircraft to the most attractive global destinations.

Air Canada provides its pilots with exciting career progression opportunities. Based on the most recent information, the time to upgrade to a narrowbody Captain is 3-5 years, with an average salary of $215,000 to $290,000 plus overtime and expenses. To upgrade to a widebody Captain typically takes 11-15 years, with an average salary of between $315,000 to $350,000 plus overtime and expenses. The airline also offers comprehensive benefits, including a pension plan and an Annual Incentive Plan.

Air Canada pilots will be assigned to operate out of one of the four crew bases: Montreal, Toronto, Winnipeg or Vancouver and typically begin their career as a First Officer on domestic aircraft or as a Relief Pilot on long-range, international flights.

What will you find with us?
Your wellbeing, and that of your family, matters to us. Our commitment to employee wellness is backed by our robust "Unlock the Best in You" (UBY) program, which supports Air Canada employees in the four keys of overall well-being: work health, mental health, financial well-being, and overall health and wellness. Through UBY, employees have access to a network of counsellors and therapists, as well to a variety of articles, webinars, and events.

Are you keen to explore the world, or to visit family and friends overseas? Our industry-leading travel privileges provide you, your family, and your friends with special rates and pass travel on Air Canada, as well as with reciprocal benefits on a variety of other airlines around the world.

Qualifications

To fly for Air Canada, pilots must meet certain basic requirements:

2000 hours of fixed wing flying time
Ability to pass the Air Canada and Transport Canada medical and visual acuity requirements for a Category 1 medical certificate
Canadian Airline Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL), current Group 1 (Multi-engine) Instrument Rating
Canadian passport or landed immigrant status
The ability to hold a Restricted Area Identity Card (RAIC)
Candidates must be eligible to work in Canada, and to travel without restriction throughout the Air Canada network. Any required work permits/visas or other authorizations which may be required is the sole responsibility of the candidates applying for this position.
Pilot applications far exceed job vacancies, so preference is given to candidates with qualifications beyond the basic requirements. Examples of desirable additional qualifications include, but are not limited to:

Graduates of a three- or four-year diploma/degree program from a college or university
Aviation College degree or diploma
Commercial or military flight experience
Jet and/or turbo-prop multi-crew experience
Diversity and Inclusion:
Air Canada is strongly committed to Diversity and Inclusion and aims to create a healthy, accessible and rewarding work environment which highlights employees' unique contributions to our company's success. As an equal opportunity employer, we welcome applications from all to help us build a diverse workforce which reflects the diversity of our customers, and communities, in which we live and serve.

Air Canada thanks all candidates for their interest; however, only those selected to continue in the process will be contacted.

We are aware that coaching programs are being offered by third party companies on Air Canada's pilot interview questions. Air Canada does not endorse any agencies that prepare candidates for our interviews. Candidates who arrive for an interview with prepared answers provided by such agencies are easily recognized and will be assessed accordingly. Interview questions are changed at regular intervals. Providing 'canned' answers will likely result in a poor assessment of your suitability as an Air Canada pilot.

That's not a recruiting ad. It's a public relations ploy towards the upcoming negotiations.
Pilots: "pay us more, as we are underpaid, or we'll go on strike!"
Company: "Can't afford it, highest paid pilots in Canada, some of the highest earners in the country, greedy pilots!"
Joe Public: [Googlesearch 'Air Canada Pilot Salary' = $215K] "$215k+?! Those effing greedy pilots! Legislate them back to work, and with a pay cut, too!"

*That's* what that post is about...

I reported it as inaccurate, with a description that they are misrepresenting the salary range, intentionally using a bottom number that *might* start in 5 years, and only for those selected to be captains. In reality it starts at 60k a year for everyone with small increases for 4 years.

Everyone else should do the same.

I reported it as well.

It would be funny to apply and then call them out on it.

I totally read this as foreshadowing what a 3 year FO will make after negotiations. Seems about right that a 3 year FO would make 215-290k depending on fleet.

Looks like the company can afford it if they are willing to advertise it 😊

Where do I sign up?

I'm a CA and don't even make $215k. My mortgage application letter from my MLO was under 200k.

This is just so when you search Air Canada Pilot Salary, this pops up. This is just the first phase of the company trying to make us look bad. "Oh look you can make 200k+ within 3 years what are those silly pilots complaining about."

Can we stop throwing around the number 60? We start at 58k. I know its not a huge difference but we need to be very transparent and fiercly reminding everyone that is the unbelievable salary we make at the flag carier. That way when the battle heats up hopefully the public can become aware of that number. Management will do anything they can to hide the embarrassment of "58k salary"

Same… more than once. I hope everyone who reads this thread does it.

Can any SEO ninjas out there get this thread or one like it to be the first thing to come up in a google search for AC wages?

Get the union involved. Jazz had to take down its false advertising claim of the “Guaranteed 60% Flow to AC” from its recruitment ads last year.

It's copy and paste of a job ad on the AC website.

https://careers.aircanada.com/jobs/1469 ... ilots-only

Second link that comes up when I Google air canada pilot pay. Management is being intentionally misleading, and easy to find for the public. Dirty pricks.

ALPA should lodge a complaint to the company about the job ad on their own career site as well, as it's cherry picking a hypothetical for the salary range and not being
transparent. I hope someone's on this already.

I don't think I've ever seen a job ad outside of MLM or snake oil sales that purports what you "could possibly" make years down the road. Certainly never, ever for a professional position.

Either show all the entire, actual salary range or none of it.

It’s also quite disingenuous to claim 3-5 years upgrade time, there’s so many variables that are even out of control of AC and 2025 hires are going to come in after the big hiring wave of 2019-2023 and now with industry showing signs of slowing down… AC has already lowered their forecast.

The funny part is they don’t even need to say it. Because anyone applying for the job already knows what the compensation is.

This is 100% just for public posturing. Company is starting to negotiate in public and expect it to get worse over the next few weeks.
