The whole thing is a laugh.

If you’re not qualified, why are you going or being dispatched there in the first place?

If you are qualified but not comfortable or conditions changed, just say that you made a safety based decision not to go… just like pilots do every day.

Similar happened to me right after being signed off, I just said the conditions had deteriorated and due to equipment limitations on our plane we couldn’t go. No one needed to know the equipment was specifically the nut that holds the yoke.

The comments are one thing. It's especially painful that the author didn't use the opportunity to research the terminology he's using:
The pilot may not have been senior enough to land in difficult conditions, which pilots refer to as ceiling and visibility unlimited (CAVU), which would explain the Reddit users’ description of the bumpy landing.

As an AvCanada discussion grows longer:
-the probability of 'entitlement' being mentioned, approaches 1
-one will be accused of using bad airmanship

Isn’t the yoke an MEL item?! 2 on board. 1 required. Jk lol.

When I went captain I was qualified. But they told me, don't do an auto land for 300 hours.

So you weren’t qualified to do auto land….

Read some CARs dude, or your company manuals

Yeah… most new captains have limitations based on amount of time or PIC on type. Low visibility takeoffs is another scenario.

Jazz lately hasn’t been able to do lower visibility than published due to “charter rules” rather than approach ban. I don’t know the nuances of it, neither do the passengers in the back, and certainly the local news media doesn’t. It’s just another day in the office.

Airlines fault for letting it leave from the beginningslope game
I wonder if the pilot was forced to fly when the company knew he did not have the certification for that particular airport- was he put in a difficult position if he said no??
