Perimeter info

Post by flybug »

Does perimeter have limits on age for hiring? Do they hire from the flight school onto the charter? I need to renew MIFR, just wondering if there is a chance to get on and bypass the ramp job if I renew with them? I have 900 hrs and class 3 instructor (expired also).
Thanks for the help.

In recent years, they have really only hired for direct-entry captains onto the metros, and even then it is very rare. Right now, all FO spots are being filled by rampies or instructors from the flight school. If you have 900 hrs and a class 3 instructor, perhaps you should try to get on as an instructor with the flight school (the mins are 1000 hrs and a class 3, I believe). Other than that, I can't see you bypassing the ramp in any way.

If I do the IFR training at Perimeter and work the ramp there too, would the ramp time be any shorter or is it all by seniority?

The instructing field is suffering for entry-level and experienced pilots. Go to Perimeter, tell them you'll renew your IFR and Class III with them, and I would bet dimes to dollars you'll be in. After 6 mos, you may have a good shot at the operational side.

@#$! the ramp. You've got 900TT. You shouldn't even consider ramping at any company in this market.

You are more valuable right now than you think you are...

My 2 cents.

It's based on seniority. There are people here who did their training with Perimeter, but that won't make the ramp time any shorter.

Well, Chris is right. In the past they've only been upgrading from the ramp onto the metro. Problem now is that Perimeter is experiencing alot of movement and they might have to look at hiring higher time pilots. If most of the current captains leave within the next year, there will not be enough experienced FO's to replace them. I wouldn't be surprised if Perimeter started hiring a few "higher timed" FO's (2000 hours or so) in anticipation of upgrading them within the year. So, if Perimeter or any other company interests you, I would definetly send in a resume. It doesn't cost all that much.

My 2 cents.

Was called and offered a position without so much as an interview, from a two year old resume. Desperate times there I guess. Was told that they are in need of more experienced people. I turned them down.

C-HRIS and Spongebob, you guys are only partially right. Perimeter has only hired 3 direct entry Metro Captains since 2000. That was to facilitate a new type and the other 2 were former Perimeter Metro Captains hired on a contract basis for their Medevac operation.

I'm not sure what you mean by Perimeter's charter department. Charters on the Pistons are flown by Perimeter flight instructors and all other charters fall into the airline side.

With 900 hrs, you are close to the 1000 total needed at Perimeter's flightschool (single pilot IFR mins) But it is a school requirement to have a valid class III instructor rating.

There is no working the ramp to get in line for the flight school.

Perimeter generally hires their Metro pilots from within, ie ramp/ dispatch (non flying jobs) and also instructors from the school.

I will admit the hires from the school have been fewer lately but remember, the non flying jobs out number the instructors probably 3 to 1.

Metro hiring is GENERALLY based on seniority. Instructors generally are quicker upgrades to Captain (some 6 months or less) and if they need people with time then they may take a few instructors. Recently, a fairly new hire in the cargo dept was offered a Metro III FO spot as he was the only one in posession of an IATRA.

If you go to Perimeter's school, it opens a alot of doors. If you leave there you have 500 Multi PIC and 1500 hrs total time. Bearskin, Voyageur etc are another place the instructors go.

If you want to fly, go there and instruct. If you have 250 hrs, it's non flying jobs.

hope this helps.
