It can be hard to identify some of those grass strips. One does have to be careful.....
C-GPJN, a private Piper PA-28-151 was on a visual flight rules flight from Goderich Municipal
Airport, ON (CYGD) to Ethel Airport, ON (CPD2). The pilot, sole person onboard, performed a
circuit and landing in a field 1.4 nm SW of CPD2. During the landing roll, the pilot elected to go-
around. During the go-around the aircraft was unable to climb and the aircraft collided with terrain
at the end of the field, bounced, crossed over a county road and came to rest approximately 100
feet past the road in an adjacent field. The pilot was injured and taken to a local hospital. The
aircraft was substantially damaged. The ELT activated and the signal was received by JRCC
Trenton. There was no fire. Local Police and Fire attended the scene.
The investigation revealed that the pilot misidentified a similar looking field as the airport runway at
CPD2 and conducted a circuit, approach and landing to a field instead.

Re: Airport Misidentification
Always fly a stable approach - it's the only stability you'll find in this business
