Parked our beaver for the winter. I put anti -freeze in the floats, disconnected the battery. Mechanic doesn't think anything else is necessary. Thoughts on this? Pickling engine, removing battery....... ?

I would think removing the battery and putting it on a trickle charger for the winter would be a good idea.

One AME who I trust a lot told me to do the oil change in the fall. Fill the oil to 50% capacity. Run the engine for 5-10 minutes and shut it down for the winter. In the spring, put the rest of the oil in.

Be careful of the type of antifreeze you put in the floats. Some types of windshield washer antifreeze are corrosive and will dissolve the sealant between seams. A an old timer AME suggested that I use RV plumbing antifreeze. I had no problems.
