Hi All,

My name is Logan, and I’m based in Northern Ontario. I’m currently working towards my CPL, with the ultimate goal of flying floats in British Columbia.

I’ve heard from several people that obtaining your license privately is often the best route, but the closest flight school to me is over three hours away, and I think I would benefit from the structure that a formal school can provide.

One school that has caught my eye is Select Aviation College in Ottawa. Has anyone here attended or graduated from their Float Pilot Program? If so, would you recommend it, or are there other options you’d suggest?

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Dryden Flying Club used to (2015) have a float plane available for members use/rental. If they still do I would explore getting your 7 hour ticket there and then renting until you have 50 hours. There is another company based out of Gimili that also used to rent a 172 on floats.

Of course, Northern Ontario is a large region so the above may not be relevant but if you can get access to a rental it will be much cheaper than the so-called Bush Course You do need 50 hours, insurance almost always insists on it.
