I have to think that with the Loonie down or below $.70 US, AC must be just kicking themselves for grenading their MRO capabilities, particularly the powerplant, with all the engine problems ongoing now. No way Westjet would do this if it wasn't the cheapest option.

The article says overhauls will still happen in the plants in Germany and Poland. So what will this shop actually do other than minor repairs ?

It says 160 staff and a test cell. It’s not insignificant.
