Canadian North Sold to EIC
But not the YUL-YVP route. Does that mean that is goes to Air Inuit with some 737 hiring?

Re: Canadian North Sold to EIC
Air Inuit picked up 3 B 737-800s about 1.5 years ago to replace their 737-200s, one 800, (freighter) has been operating their YUL-YVP freight run since last summer...the other 2 -800s are (apparently) being converted to a combi configuration and may be online later this year.
CDN North has a 737-700 (all pax) operating on the the YUL-YVP route but this will now end once EIC takes over.
According to the EIC press release, it'll be business as usual for CDN North with the change of ownership...for the first year anyways...

Re: Canadian North Sold to EIC
Oh god. Why. Monopoly on Northern travel is getting more and more real.
As an AvCanada discussion grows longer:
-the probability of 'entitlement' being mentioned, approaches 1
-one will be accused of using bad airmanship

Go ahead as Nolinor and Chrono have. I’m sure both of them aren’t happy about the amalgamation of the North but it is what it is.

Now that EIC has such a monopoly have they started gouging their Northerner customers yet?

Nah. EIC is too busy gutting management teams. With so few management resources, they don't even know their own operating costs, or how to gouge.

…and if you’re successful you can sell to EIC!
Re: Canadian North Sold to EIC
Most airlines are way over managed in my experience. I remember working for one that had 7 aircraft and 1 manager.goingnowherefast wrote: ↑Wed Feb 26, 2025 5:38 pm Nah. Re: Canadian North Sold to EIC
Maybe Air Canada and West Jet will step in and offer cheap fares like they did in YZF. Once they eliminate the local airlines they will increase the rates to higher than Canadian north.
Then everyone can get jerked around just like the YZF route with both majors. From what i am told they continually bump YZF if they need an aircraft on a southern route.

I'm thinking in a few years once the dust settles on this take over by EIC, watch for Calm Air's operation to be folded into Canadian North's.

Nah. Won’t happen. Calm air is too Manitoba for EIC to fold it in. EIC owns PAL and perimeter/bearskin, and keewatin.
I wager EIC buys wasaya group next

They already own half of Wasaya.CaptDukeNukem wrote: ↑Tue Mar 04, 2025 10:55 pmNah. Won’t happen. Calm air is too Manitoba for EIC to fold it in. EIC owns PAL and perimeter/bearskin, and keewatin.

Re: Canadian North Sold to EIC
Why would the communities that own the other half of Wasaya sell their share? They aren't stupid...goingnowherefast wrote: ↑Wed Mar 05, 2025 5:20 amThey already own half of Wasaya.CaptDukeNukem wrote: ↑Tue Mar 04, 2025 10:55 pmNah. Won’t happen. Re: Canadian North Sold to EIC
They use their ownership stake to influence frequency and service levels well beyond what some communities can economically support. How else does one justify twice daily Dash-8 service for 25 passengers a week.
PC-12 and 1900 have a really high CASM, so upgauge to Dash-8s to reduce seat cost. But communities demand frequency with their political and financial authority. Then they add a stop on the "milk-run" to pick up 1 passenger.
I wonder if EIC regrets their decision to buy only half of Wasaya.
Hopefully Canadian North can find a happy balance of service frequency, market demand and aircraft size.

Re: Canadian North Sold to EIC
After all that's why they own wasaya. They own wasaya to serve their community, not to make a big profit... as long as the company is not losing money.goingnowherefast wrote: ↑Fri Mar 07, 2025 5:10 am They use their ownership stake to influence frequency and service levels well beyond what some communities can economically support.
