Air Tindi

Hi there,

I'm about a month away from wrapping up my Multi and group 1 IFR and just had Air Tindi stop by the school last night for a presentation. Basically gave us the run down of what it's like living and flying in Yellowknife and north. They mentioned that they have a "Part-Time First Officer" program which seems to be a development of the old "Pilot in waiting" programs every northern operator has had and perhaps still has. They mentioned you'd likely be initially trained in ground work then eventually sent south for sim on either the Twin Otter or King Air to come back and fly on a 4-days on ground, 4-days off, 4-days flying, 4-days off cycle.

My question for folks on here is what is it like flying for Tindi? and what would a person be looking at in terms of living in the Knife? What exactly is it like travelling on interline?

Aside from my in-progress Multi-IFR, I have ~420 TT, 305 PIC as of the day I'm writing this. Will probably finish training closer to 440-445TT. Will have IATRA done fairly soon too if that is required, though it didn't sound like it till you get on the Dash's.

Thanks in advance.

Tindi will provide a great foundation for your aviation career. Good experienced people to learn from, and wide variety of flying available.

Yellowknife is fairly civilized for northern living. It's not without its issues, but you have a Cdn Tire/Walmart/Extra foods, so you'll be fine.

Reach out to someone like "young grasshopper", he's still in yzf and can give you more current info.

Thanks, Donald

That seems to be the general consensus from the folks I've talked to along the way. Stand up operation from what I've heard, PPC right away and no training bonds holding you back like some other outfits.

I'll see about reaching out to him for some more info, thanks again.

Don't mean to be an a$$. One would have thought you would have asked these questions from how ever was there from Air Tindi

I did!

Got some good info from the Ops Manager during the info night, but I thought I'd get input from folks on here as well. Thanks again to YG for the insight into life in Yellowknife and Tindi the other day.

I applied to them in January I was around 300 hours with my Multi IFR and IATRA written, I didn't hear anything back. shame really, I know someone who's flying there and says its a good gig.

Tindi is (at least when I was there) an outstanding operation. I have absolutely no regrets, aside from not staying longer. If you want the true northern adventure (and risk), fly the twin otter. If you want a more structured and comfortable flying experience, take the king air. Both are great options really.

Sorry fellas, Tindi got back to me awhile ago and from they mentioned all their PTFO slots were filled. They do not hire direct entry FOs, only Captains.
