London Ontario and area flight schools
Hi there.
New to forum. Would like to ask pilots in the area about what flight schools to look at.
Some background. I started ground school with DFC back in late 2019, when Covid hit I decided to take a break and from there I ended up becoming very focused with my career and lost sight of getting my PPL. Fast forward to now I have time again to work towards my ppl, from there I want to get my night rating, and possibly my IFR rating. At this time it seems DFC is no longer taking non college students and did not have much of an answer of when they will start accepting non college students again. Maybe someone here might know more if this is changing by fall.
Regardless I am looking for opinions of other flight schools, I am basically 35 min from London or Sarina or st Thomas so all three are options. Prefer to be at school that has experienced instructors, good equipment and focuses training safety and proficiency then trying to pound out your hours as fast as possible.
Thanks

He is outstanding. As a pro pilot I had dealings with him when a former boss wanted me to get “checked out” on his put put machine.TurkeyFarmYQX wrote: ↑Tue Apr 08, 2025 4:10 pm Can you manage Stratford?

Worth the drive, I mirror TurkeyFarmYQX’s post above.

I paid Andy a visit yesterday and dropped off a resume for an instructor position and he remembered me from the last time I came and saw him . He truly is a great guy and runs a great school. I’d love to maybe fly for him one day.TurkeyFarmYQX wrote: ↑Tue Apr 08, 2025 4:10 pm Can you manage Stratford?

I've been at this for 2 decades now, and Jason the CFI in Sarnia has been teaching for even longer. Sarnia is also a great option. Family owned and operated outfit. You can't go wrong with Sarnia either. They had me out the door with a CPL + float rating in under 6 months.

I heard there was a group looking to get approved for a Flight Training Unit in London to alleviate some of the pressure on the Diamond Flight Centre with Fanshawe and Western. Like most things, it takes a while to jump thru the hoops and over the hurdles with Transport. Just curious if anyone has heard this or knows how far along they are in the process.
