PTR questions about finishing a CPL in Canada from FAA-Land
Hi!
So after a bit of work I figured out how to convert my FAA IR to a TC IR and I've got the sticker to prove it!
I'm going through the CARs/ACs to try and figure out what I'll need to finish my CPL in Canada and am looking for some help.
I'm Canadian, did my PPL and Night Rating in Canada, did my 300nm XC towards the CPL then moved to the USA for 10 years.
I flew about 1300 hours in the USA on my PPL, did my IR in the USA and am now back in Canada.
I've transferred my IR back to Canada, and now I'm thinking about finishing my CPL.
Going through the flight standards section in 421, I see that I need 35 hours of dual dedicated to improving commercial aircraft handling skills and 30 hours of solo practice. It doesn't specifically say it needs to me recorded in a PTR, but my local flight school is saying it does so I'm assuming that's what TC wants to see?
My overarching question is, Can I get credit for anything I did in the USA?
1) Can my Night Rating training time count towards the 35 hours if I don't have that PTR anymore? I see that I can claim credit for having a night rating, but still need the 35 hours? If the Night Rating PTR was forwarded to the minister per CAR 405.33, is that sufficient?
2) Now that I have a Canadian IR ticket, does the 20 hours required towards instrument flying goes away? And am I right in understanding that I DON'T need to still meet the 35 hours and it's now 15 hours of dual? since this is the only credit section that doesn't say you still need to meet the total times that makes sense in my head.
3) If I just need 15 more hours in a PTR, that's more reasonable, would getting a Group 1 & Multi Rating count, or does it have to be SEL time?
4) For the Solo Time - Does that also need to be in a PTR? If so I'm guessing I need to redo the 300nm XC?
Thanks for your help!

1. The night training time can be counted towards the 35 - it is post PPL training and part of the CPL training program.
2. Yes - actual flight time counts towards 35 hour, not simulator
3. The term commercial training is a loose term, basically is post PPL training, the school can call it what it wants and can be in multi, single etc
4. It is unreasonable to have to do another 30 hours after having all that experience but technically is supposed to be under the supervision of an instructor. The 300 XC doesn't have to be done again.
It comes down to the school AP is unlikely to sign off giving privileges under these circumstances but you will probably be fine just applying to TC once your tests are passed.

Thanks!
For #2 - are you saying that the dual flight time in an airplane for my IR counts towards the 35, or because I have an IR that the 20 hours are deemed "completed" and I'm fine to just get 15 more dual hours under supervision?

What i mean is dual time in aircraft is counted as a part of the 35 hours of flight time - within that is the 20 instrument requirement which allows for 10 simulator but 10 simulator is not flight time so that helps meet the 20 but not the 35 of actual flight time.

Cheaper option might be to finish your CPL in the States (I did just that). You got the hours, all you need is the proper training (The Big Four as I like to call them - Chandelles, Lazy Eights, Eight on Pylons and the hardest one - the Power off 180), the written and sign off.
Might be easier this way.... Also, if you have flown with an instructor past your PPL, you can ask them to sign your solo flights. Transport Canada will accept it (I emailed them about it in the past)
