Amongst the usual bitching/complaining one reads and hears about abysmal airline service, there is a positive tale. My medical research scientist Dr daughter headed over to Europe with kids and partner for a conference in Brussels and they took the inaugural WJ YHZ to CDG as part of the excursion and return same. Your airline added a nice touch on departure with a glass of zero alcohol Nova 7 plus macarons, also treats for both kids. It was a lovely trip over, left YHZ on time, smooth crossing, really nice cabin crew and departure staff. Same on the return although 45 min departure delay at CDG- understandable of course. It was her first time on WJ in over 20 yrs and was impressed to say the least. It is certainly advantageous to fly out of YHZ to European destinations rather than the connection shit shows out of YYZ and YUL especially late night getting back to NB where they live. Another fall conference scheduled for Europe in lieu of the hassle dealing with USA scientific excursions and border related shit storms.
Certainly nice touch by WJ from an appreciative customer who would certainly use that service again should it remain available.

WestJet's Q1 on time performance was around 45%, so yes, the departure delay that you experienced was understandable.

Incredibox Game With such a positive experience, do you (or your daughter) plan to continue using WestJet for future business trips to Europe, or will you consider other airlines? And will the “avoid connecting via YYZ/YUL” factor become a permanent criterion for future travel choices?

Yes, I think they will continue with WJ service out of YHZ to Europe should the schedule, conference location be compatible. She and partner really enjoy Continental Europe and from what I gather there are some available 2026 conferences she is slated to attend and Paris is their go to spot with efficient train schedules to the attending sites.
