New Jazz Bid
Showing 52 new spots.....openings in all bases (including (9) YYC and (9) YVR) except Halifax of course...great stuff for the new hires who get to choose their base off the bat.

Thanks Socrates. Looks like only eastern spots were taken. Is that because that's all that was offered to that particular group or did they have the option to base out west and just choose not to? Just wondering how the processes works because from all other indications on this forum western sopts are available. If I'm able to get on, I'm hoping to grab one of those.

July's bid has come and gone. Thisis for needs that have come about after the fact- ie. This is for more Fo's in YYC, and you can bid on the new vacancies. (if there were no new slots, why could you be able to bid on them after they were awarded?).

questions
Hello..
First of all, I appologize if my questions have been answered elsewhere on this forum.. I did do a bit of search, but I got lazy! LOL.
I have been called for an interview, and to be honest, I'm trying to find out some information before doing an interview.
1) What are the chances of getting YYZ on a CRJ? (I know that the answer will prolly be.. "no guarantees, you bid on it when you got to groundschool"...How is seniority determined in groundschool (age? Social security, ?)...do they make decisions based on your experience or something?
2) How is the pay in 2nd year? What is the estimated (rough) upgrade time.
3) Is there still a sim eval as the last part of the interview?
4) If I were to get YYZ what is the call out time to the airport? 1.5 hours? 2?
Thanks for all the questions.... I appreciate it.
Cheers all.

Re: questions
1. RJ YYZ is still open, 8 spots I think, probably more. They put all the names in a hat and draw, first picked gets top seniority and chooses a/c and base first.tbone wrote:Hello..

2. 2nd year pay is around 42K
3. Yes
4. 2 hrs
The pay for the first 2 years are a little deceiving....1st year starting pay is $35,200 but that is for 75 hrs....but a few guys (myself included) got to hold a block right away and fly around 83 credit hrs a month. That averages out to almost $40000 per year for your first year....plus $750 per month for per diems. Good Luck.....
how can you even count perdiems? what do you eat? natural block growth isn't something that is always there and to be counted on. It is crap pay and the lifestyle with that crap pay matches it. Throw in a yyz mortgage an(if you qualify)or a commute with the odd hotel or pay for a crash pad and a seven year upgrade. This is reality. I don't mean to disrespect you KAG but you just made a shit sandwich.KAG wrote:I'm almost clearing 3K a month (Salary + perdiums + natural block growth) so it's better then it sounds. If your on reserve and not flying, it's 2K a month.

I'll be the first to say the pay aint great (slight understatement). Since I don't drink much on my overnights, nor eat expensive diners I save a fair amount of my perdium.
You also can't count on natural block growth, but I average 10-12 hours a month. The salary is pretty bad on paper but you end up taking home a bit more if you can hold a block. it's not great but it's better then what you think your going to get.
This is a good job, but has it's issues. Pay being the biggest one.
