Keep girls on girls' teams

Post by politically_incorrect »

In Winnipeg today, two sisters won the right to play hockey on a boy's team. They'd taken their case to the Manitoba Human Rights Commission after being denied permission to play with the boys last year. Big stink about the whole thing.

But guess what: if you sit to pee, you belong on a girls' team. What gives them the "human right" to play with the boys?

They'd better be willing to take some hits on the ice, or will they take that to the human rights board as well, I wonder? I know I'd be gunning for them if I was on one of those boys' teams.

"You wanted to play with the boys? Well here, say 'hello' to the glass."

Oh Pooh, who cares what happens in YWG?

Boys always worry about being showed up by a girl, I say let the boys live in a fantasy world of making it to the NHL!

Who the F@#K cares...Are they taking your spot on the team??? what diff does it make if they are xx or xy. If they are good enough to make the freakin team, they are good enough. period. The fact that people would be gunnin for them is weak.

Have you ever been told you couldn't do something you really wanted to do just because of what hangs between your legs?

If that's the case, then let's make the Olympics unisex/sex-blind and see how the women like it. All they'll be known for are medals in synchronized swimming and rhythmic gymnastics, because males are superior in just about every sport that I can think of off the top of my head. Then let's see how happy they are about being treated "equally".

I think its good to do what has been done in winnipeg but there will be consequences. How about football that would be entertaining ....boxing?...Id like to see a guy like what mike tyson used to be take on a woman in the ring of the same class. Now thats a fuking sports channel I would subscribe to

I can't express in words the horror of actually agreeing with SnJ on this! Those girls are going to either be very tough, or very fast. Rugby could also be worth watching. I think the words 'be careful what you wish for' could come back to haunt them.

cpt sweet'njuicy wrote:...It is about time that females be allowed into areas where normally only men tread. Sure you can have girls hockey but everyone knows that its not the same. I wouldnt agree that any player should direct undue harm toward these girls but if they want to use the law to place themselves in harms way then so be it. When one or both of these girls gets their ribcage squashed into the boards by a 250 pounder they will realize then what so many woman have realized after such acts....I dont belong in this part of a mans world. I belong on the girls team where after im done playing hockey I can still walk.
Interesting, but the point is that they have only won the opportunity to try out...if they can't cut it they sure as hell won't make it. Not all girls/women can play in a men's league( at least not at par), but if they are qualified, why the fuke not? They have been smaller guys that can play high school level hockey, so there size should not be an issue.

Truth be told I am on the fence on this issue. On one hand, I believe that if girl's hockey wasn't challenging enough for these girl's, then playing with the boy's team seem's almost logical. On the other hand, I don't know if I like the precedent(sp?) that it sets for boys who don't make their own team, to then try out for girls team....before you know there will be very few spots on the team left for girl's. girl's team could easily become a boy's B team. For me, I don't know what I would have done in a similar situation, but these girl's sure have a lot of nerve, and a lot of fight left yet. God knows they're going to need it.

An interesting debate if nothing else...but some true colors sure do come flying out:

"You wanted to play with the boys? Well here, say 'hello' to the glass."

On a whole, your generalizations work, but there are always exceptions to the rule

If you use the term "good enough to make the team" then I am sure there are many men out there good enough to make most girls teams of any sort. What..... you mean it only works one way. Common girls we kind of like you the way you are, if you become one of us then YOU take the garbage out and put some saggy old sweat pants on before you go. Sorry girls but we are equal as humans, but different almost every where else.

That's why I'm on the fence for this one...I agree with you...I don't believe it only goes way. I believe in taking the freaking garbage out, i am not afraid to lift a shovel, and if I have fought to play with "the boys" in some area of my life, I sure as hell am ready to play.

When it comes to liking us they way we are, what exactly is that? sub par? Sitting pretty and knowing our place?

What about in communities that don't have seperate leagues for girls and boys hockey? Is it okay then? Or should girl's be reduced to playing ringette for the rest of their lives?

Another social Taboo broken and nobody noticed.

Boys are not meant to hit Girls
Men are not meant to hit Women
Placing both on what can be violent contact sports teams erases that Taboo in the minds of the players and those who watch .
My instinct when i see a man hit a woman is always to stop the fight ,what will happen when a fight breaks out on the ice ????

This case does not promote equal rights in the slightest. Sure, if you are more skilled than a male player trying out, then by all means, you should take his spot on the team. But you should not be allowed to say 'boo' if a guy shows up to your female team's tryouts, and wins a spot because he can skate faster, hit harder, shoot harder, etc.

If I were a male athelete at that school, then I would contest the decision based on those grounds.

The only way I agree with this ruling is if the school does NOT have a female hockey team, but in this case, the school DOES. So this is just a stupid PR boost and attention grab. They have their own team, or are they saying they're too good for that now?

Why for some women is it always about, if you can do it then I can to. We had a very capable young lady flying for us. She was competent in every aspect except physical strength. Why can some girls not get it through their heads that they are designed that way for a reason. It was simply unfair to the other crew member to be paired with her on a 100 barrel fuel haul. Most men I know don't want their partner, wife whatever to be as brawny as them. I said most. The curves and bumps and soft spots are their for a reason. Never ever hit a female, I don't care how mad you are. If I see you do that, I'll tear your house down. Contact hockey falls in that catagory.

OK, I'll open up the can of worms.

Sometimes women need to be treated the same as a man, and be hit.

I said it. I've only done it once.

I backhanded the ex in the face when she was trying to violently grab the steering wheel multiple times, and we were close to parked cars and oncoming traffic. (Yeah, booze was involved.)

She got a light backhand after two (2) warnings.

Of course she wailed with tears, "I can't believe you hit me!!!"

The next day she didn't remember it, and our friends in the back seat agreed with my resolution to the problem.

That's only one of the reasons she's my ex.

A guy would never do such dangerous things. Or if he did, he would get more than a light slap.

My point being that they'd better not expect different treatment on the ice, and they sure as hell had better not complain when they do get hit with the same force that anyone else on the ice should reasonably expect.

if they are already playing at that level of hockey, I am pretty sure they already no how to take a hit. Damn I would go so far as to say that they are probably looking forward to doing a little hitting as well.

No. My point is that they'd better expect to take hits - sometimes hard hits - just like everyone else, and they'd better not bitch about it.

Although most of us are built with the required curves, bumps and soft spots, there are those that aren't. And sometimes they make good fire fighters, hockey players, boxers, racecar drivers, weight lifters, etc. And if they listened to anyone on this forum they would never have ventured outside of tennis and synchronized swimming. There isn't a freaking mould that we pop out of, and a list of specs saying what we are and aren't capable of because of having breasts.

I am still on the fence with this issue, but no one here has made a valid point as to why this is not a good thing.

Why should theses two girls not be allowed to try out?
