Pretty much everyone I know who got a PIW job ended up having to leave because 6 months to a year resulted in nothing after 2 years.

Isn't it hard to find transferable skills when you've been working outside aviation for most of your life?

Yes there are, but rate. But first, you need to ask yourself if you want that job. Why would an outfit hire you, with minimal experience to fly an aircraft that a pilot with 1000 hours might apply to? Answer: because it's a terrible job, and a more experienced pilot can get a better job. Second, there is a good chance that you won't upgrade because of your lack of PIC experience. And no one will hire you thereafter as PIC, because, again, you have no PIC time and may be seen as a seat warmer.

I worked as a developer, there are some transferable skills but I don’t think any small operator is looking for a programmer haha! If I was say an accountant what’s the chance they’d rather keep someone like that in a ground position? Or is it really hit and miss
