Info on Australia please!

Post by Beacon Final »

Can anyone that has been "down under" tell me day to day shit about Aussie. Stuff that is too hard to find online. I need info from another pilots point of view type thing.... ie:

What is the night life like? Bars? Pubs?

Any tips on travelling down there?

Like is it humid? Compared to TO?

Do the girls have teeth?

No Kangaroo Jokes please.... thanks all.

East coast is very much what you'd see in Canada or US. West side just has Perth. Much more laid back, and don't have to go far for the Australia you've seen on them gator wrestlin' shows. Night life is what you're probably used to here. The girls are great, but they only look good when they're young. Too much sun out there, anyone over 25 is pruned up and leathery. Nowhere close to the humidity you see in TO. Quite dry actually and inland fresh water is very limited. Yes, there are lots of kangaroos, and most of the snakes will kill ya, but it's a lot of fun too.

Spent 7 weeks there last year. Great country to visit, wouldn't mind living there. Most of the Aussies lives on the east coast (east of the mountains) but one must got on the back side of those mountains (aka the Outback). As snag said, very dry place. On the news most night they have a water reservoir report!!! Once in a blue moon, very strick water restrictions are in effect.

Aussies love to party and drink. Heck the whole country shuts down on the first tuesday of november just for a horse race... Wildlife is present everywhere. You just need to get out of the cities to find it. There is something for everyone in Aussieland, just make your pick.

PM me if you want more specific stuff.

Depending on the time of year the north can be very hot and humid. Temps in the high 40's with 100% humidity during the rainy season. I have pretty much travelled the entire country but quite a few years ago now.

Aussies are great people and they love Canadians but sure dislike the Americans. That seems to be pretty much a world wide thing!!

If you are travelling on limited time say up to a month, the east coast north from Sydney is your best bet. If you have more time tour the whole country. South Australia is real nice but remember the further south you go the cooler it gets so you have to make sure it is full summer to get the best enjoyment. Western Australia, south of Perth is also very nice. North of Perth is pretty desolate with only a few small towns, but you can still have a great time with the locals up that way as well.

Beautiful women, fantastic beaches and great beer that is always served very cold, need I go on!!

They say, "Mate" a lot and I hear that is also what the local females do in their spare time.

I was travelling around Melbourne last year for fun, not flying stuff. Very very nice area. It's hot but not nearly as scorching as the central or northern areas. City was expensive to live in(our host is a real estate agent and gave us the lowdown) but if you're "near" then you can probably do fine. It was kinda like a drier, sunnier Vancouver.

Melbourne is very modern, the girls are pretty, lots at night etc etc great city and aparently even skiing a couple hours away. Get outta the city a bit and the redneck starts setting in.

Good luck with that job, I wish I could move down there, at least for awhile.

Cheers

From and Australian prospective. This is a great country. East coast is the best, Sydney in paticular. You'll have no problems finding a place to drink or Party (remember the name KINGS CROSS, and you'll be fine). This is a great time of year to be down here. Very beachy. The girls don't wear much (it's too hot) neither do the guy's, and the weather is great. Humidity can get high, around the 70-80% mark or so, but nowhere near the humidity I remember from my days living in Toronto. However it does get really hot. It can be 30 plus for weeks.

If you like looking at women, Perth is definatly the top of the gene pool. Must be something in the water. But remember Australia is a huge country and Perth is as far away from Sydney as Toronto is from Vancouver.

Melbourne is also a great place, but for some reason everyone is always wearing black. The weather down there can be a bit s@#thouse, as it doesn't seem to rain but drizzle for days.

If you want the best beaches, go to Queensland. My in-laws live up there and it is truly god's country. Brisbane is really just a city between two beaches, so you're better off either going to the Gold Coast, Surfers Paradice (a bit upitty for me), or the Sunshine Coast. Everyone in Queensland seems to have a differnt outlook on life. A bit like the island time outlook. Nothing is to pressing. It's fantastic.

Adelaide. Cute, but I wouldn't bother.

Cairns and the reef. Now this place has improved immensely since I came here 10 years ago. It used to be a bit backward, but now it is great. Best place to start if you're gonna go to the reef.

Darwin. Still backward, but fun none the less.

Tasmamia. The most beautiful place on earth. Except New Zealand and British Columbia.

Anyway. If there is anything else you want to know. I'll be here.
Cheers.
