290-100 retirements is a net increase of 190. 190/5800=3.3% increase in pilot population. A slightly higher percent increase in total flying positions when inactive pilots are removed from the calculation but still very modest.
Perhaps somewhere out in mid to late 2026 the picture for 2027 will become clearer. Likely mostly dependant upon the economy. Absent a merger (a 1% possibility), I don’t think that seniority #7000 will ever come to pass as has been speculated. Even #6500 would require AC to operate a fleet 30+ airframes bigger than 2026. Repatriating some of the Express 76 seat jet flying (using 76 seat jets flown by pilots on the mainline seniority list) could contribute to that fleet increase.
Personally, I do not believe that 2030 will look anything like 2025. The pilot supply chain will remain the preeminent challenge for most CDN operators.
