Might Want to Look Out The Window First

Post by pelmet »

So many false warning reports. It is -20 outside and people get injured in evacuations. Stop, do the drill, look outside and monitor, advise the cabin crew to also monitor, be ready to evacuate.....

C-GAIG, a Boeing 737-200 operated by Air Inuit Ltd. under the registration AIE705, was scheduled to conduct an instrument flight from La Grande Airport, QC (CYGL) to Montreal/Pierre Elliott Trudeau Airport, QC (CYUL) with 67 passengers and 5 crew members on board. While taxiing on taxiway B1 following landing on runway 06L, there was an indication and an audible alert of a right engine fire. The crew completed the emergency quick return check (QRH), reported the situation to ATC, and ordered the evacuation of the aircraft. During the evacuation, 3 passengers sustained minor injuries. The passengers were transported to the terminal by bus. Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF) services found no evidence of fire.

Either you're not an airline pilot, or you are not a good one.

1. You're taught that if you have a fire indication, evacuate.
2. You cannot see inside the engine from the cockpit.
3. It's better to have uncomfortable passengers than it is to have crispy passengers.

AC797 became totally engulfed in flames less than 90 seconds after touchdown. Why would you waste 30 seconds trying to get the opinion of a flight attendant who doesn't know the difference between a tail pipe fire and a nacelle fire?

Once you do the drill you can look however long you like, because the plane will be evacuated and you'll be outside standing on the runway

Hopefully evacuations like this make it into the news a bit more, so people will stop flying in flipflops and shorts during Canadian winters

As an AvCanada discussion grows longer:
-the probability of 'entitlement' being mentioned, approaches 1
-one will be accused of using bad airmanship

Are you aware that AC 797 had a cabin fire, not an engine fire?
