can anybody shed some light on the OMNR Twin Otter positions? Where are they based during the fire season? Are accoms provided and paid for my the OMNR or, are you on the hook to pay for accoms yourself? Are there per diems? Do they fly you back to the main base for the 4 days off, then back out to where ever the aircraft you're assigned to is currently located? Really curious what that job is like. Would appreciate any infos. Thnxs

My info is dated, however….
Generally the twins stay in the east fire region. Mainly, but not limited to Muskoka, North Bay, Sudbury, Timmins or Chapleau. You are on the move a lot and can be based anywhere in the province depending on the fire situation. And you can be moved to a new base any time, so pack your bags and bring them with you to the airport every day.
The main bases are Sudbury and Timmins. If you don’t already live there you need to find a place within an hour at your expense. When you are on the road your accom and all other expenses are paid for. There is a per diem as well but I’m not sure what it is now.
They will provide transport for you back to your main base for days off, either by air or road, and then back to wherever your plane is when you start your shift. Crew changes usually happen in the morning since alerts don’t usually begin till 1pm.
The water bombing is all done single pilot and can keep you pretty busy if it’s a tight circuit. Anything IFR or off strip is done 2 crew. There is one machine in Timmins that is kept on tundra tires and used for the coastal work. 3 others go on amphibs for fire in summer and generally travel together all season. 2 machines in Dryden stay on regular wheels year round.
