Skiplane Crash Thread

Post by pelmet »

Fairly rare(fortunately), but perhaps a pilot planning on skiplane ops someday will want to use this as a reference....

C-FOXF, a privately operated, amateur-built KitFox Series V aircraft, was conducting a visual flight rules (VFR) flight to and from St-Lambert-De-Lauzon Aerodrome, QC (CST7). After performing several touch-and-go landings on Lake Etchemin, a touch-and-go landing was attempted at Lac-Etchemin Aerodrome, QC (CSC5), where the runway was snow-covered. During the landing approach, witnesses observed that one of the main landing gear skis was misaligned and pointing towards the nose of the aircraft. The pilot did not notice this, and upon touchdown, control was lost and the aircraft rolled over. The two occupants were uninjured. The aircraft sustained significant damage. The axle of the ski-wheel system was found to be broken.
