N65KB, a privately operated Cirrus Design Corp SR22-G1, was conducting an IFR flight from
Springbank/Calgary Airport (CYBW), AB, to Campbell River Airport (CYBL), BC with a pilot and
one passenger on board.
Approximately 30 nm WSW of CYBW the aircraft entered a spin and impacted the west side of
Mount McDougall at an elevation of approximately 6600 feet ASL. There was a post impact fire
which consumed the majority of the aircraft. Both occupants received fatal injuries.

Re: American Cirrus Mountain Crash
that mountain( Mt. MacDougall )has seen 25 deaths from aircraft crashes on its slopes since the ww2 . 8 in the last 3 years including the most recent. in 1986 13 perished in a span of 10 days which resulted in a name change for the nearby lakes to memorial lakes. tragic losses .
some folks mainly private pilots, also seem to forget to correctly interrupt the gfa for wx they are in are in ft msl unless stated in agl so if the terrain is 2500 metes ( 8000ft) and the gfa says overcast at 7000 tops 14000 you get the picture . fly safe

Re: American Cirrus Mountain Crash
Single engine IFR in the mountains is asking for problems - jmho.
Always fly a stable approach - it's the only stability you'll find in this business
