If you add power to the -7 with full flaps, they will automatically bleed up to the next higher notch, (I'm sure it wouldn't fly level with max flaps, even if the a/c would allow you to!) so the shortest landing is a steep approach on the AOA indicator with power back. Did some great spot landing contests in Northern Alta. with barrel hauls! A lot of fun to fly is you aren't just doing airport stuff.
Current -7 guys - feel free to correct me if my recollections are rusty.

"What's it doing now?"
"Fly low and slow and throttle back in the turns."

The actual name of that airstrip is 'Howards Pass' or 'XY Strip', one of two strips on the Yukon/NWT border that are about 14 miles apart. The other one is called 'Anniversary' That would be an Arctic Sunwest bird. You can see the camp to the right of the video.

Flying is the second greatest thrill in life... landing is the first.
Take my love, take my land, take me where I cannot stand. I dont care, Im still free. You cant take the Sky from me

As well, if you are interested: Howards Pass (XY): 62°27'24.27"N 129°12'10.66"W (not too hard to see, the dark 1500 or so' long line to the west of the co-ords on Google Earth)
Anniversry: 62°34'21.77"N 129°33'30.07"W (difficult to see on Google Earth, but its the short lighter line just south of that black dot near the co-ords.)

The hardest thing about flying is knowing when to say no
After over a half a century of flying no one ever died because of my decision not to fly.

FlyYukon, yep it would be.
I can see it as plain as day in my mind...what's left of it...
But a video would be superb.
Right you guys up there in the High Arctic?

A) It'll be Victoria Island in the early spring, using coffee cans filled with sand and jet B. Same world diappring stuff though.
B) It'll have to wait till spring... I'm headed to the other end of the world right now.
Cheers,
JC

I'd like to see some shots from the ski ops. Gotta be some fun stuff happening down there on the bottom of the world. If there wasn't, they wouldn't be calling you folks to do it in the first place, anybody could do it, and somebody would surely lowball it all.just curious wrote:Happy to oblige, but:What I would like to see is a video of breaking out of cloud on Banks Island in real crap ceiling and vis at night and landing on a frozen lake with fuel oil soaked toilet paper in cans on fire for runway lighting...and just as the wheels touch and reverse thrust gets into the act watching the whole fuc.in world go white....
