Any referance as to where you found that.

Would that change be applicable for anyone who completed groundschool before that date and in the final stages of CPL, by any chance?

Here's the reference...

Your CPL has to be signed off on or before Dec. 31 not to be affected by this.

What!?

I really wonder what the requirment would be if you write the test, and are just completing the flight time. This could seriously screw me. I won't be too many hours from being signed off, but finished ground school and the exam almost a year ago.

*** minimum 10 takeoffs, circuits and landings
hehe that's my fav part...how can you get your 200 hours without having done atleast 10 takeoff & landings?

it just means you have to record your daytime VFR TO/Landings now

Are you sure that that is not just a typo in the AIM???

The CARS:
http://www.tc.gc.ca/CivilAviation/Regse ... htm#421_30

...should be more definitive than the AIM, and the CARs say 40.

DIVISION VII - COMMERCIAL PILOT LICENCE

421.30 Aeroplanes - Requirements

(3) Knowledge

An applicant shall have:

(a) completed a minimum of 40 hours commercial pilot aeroplane ground school instruction on the following subjects:

No, that is not a typo.

The change comes into effect on December 1st.

Remember, "groundschool" does not only mean training done in a classroom setting. It can be online, or some structured "self-study" program, as long as it is accepted by the CFI of the flight training unit.

The CARS will be updated when the regulation comes into force.

Hey Folks,

Don't get excited, there is an exemption coming out for the transition to the new 80 hour CPL groundschool requirement.

Stay tuned to the TC website.

I'm wondering how the schools are going to structure a 80 hours ground school program for CPL. What are the additional subjects? Seems that since a change is comming forth Dec 1st, there is no inofrmation on what is going to be expected for 80 hours.

Self study means what, I read books, do exercises and the school has to approve and supervise me?

We've tailored the new syllabus with more time on the weak areas. We've added more sectional exams as well.

The exemption for the 80 hrs

Must have proof (PTR) that you started ground school before Dec 1

Must have your exam writen by March 1 2007

Must have applied for licence by March 1 2009

meet these and you do not have to do the additional 40 hrs. Miss any of those dates and you have to.

*** WARNING ***

If you want to hear the latest from TC, you should call them NOW. Things have changed in the past week or so.

There was an exemption planned and drafted, but somewhere in Ottawa there was a decision made to NOT impliment it.

So: Any application dated after December 14th (when it was signed into law by the Minister, was originally supposed to be December 1st) it will be refused unless 80 hours of groundschool is shown in the PTR.

LOL, and for those of you who doubt the above information, I would STRONGLY suggest that you contact your local TC Licencing people BEFORE submitting your CPL application.

Oh, and don't shoot the messanger. I am as confused as you are.

I will see how it goes, my form is dated December 11th, I Fedexed it from Paris France on the 13th and it was received at a Pacific Region TC Office at 10:12 PST on the 14th. I have less than the now required 80hrs Ground School logged in my PTR.

I didn't see any modifications to the CARs or any information published in the Canada Gazette, could you confirm that it is already passed into law or will it only be law when this information will actually be published somewhere (Maybe I missed something).

Regards,

Frac

Well, actually, the date of application is NOT the date it reaches our office, but the date on the form. So, if your form is dated prior to the implementation date, you should be just fine.

Again, I am not here to make your life any more difficult. It has not (as of when I checked a few hours ago) yet made it into the CARs. I have been told that it takes some time (a few days) before they get to updating the internet version of the CARs.

I will keep checking, and post the reference when it becomes available.

Oh, if you have questions regarding your application, you should phone the Pacific Region Licencing office (between 8am and 4pm PST)... they can put your mind at ease. You really shouldn't have a problem.

Their contact information is here: http://www.tc.gc.ca/pacific/aboutus/tcnumbers.htm

Aircraft & Personnel Licensing: (604) 666-5571

I hope that helps.
