alcohal..and how good it tastes
is it really bad that beer is the first thing i think of when i get home from a day of flying? before i even get my shoes off i have a beer in my hand. it's not like this is a one time thing... this is EVERY DAY. .... so this gets me to thinking: does flying make me want to drink? i hate to say it but the answer is..............OH MY GOD YES. even at parts during my day sometimes i think to my self ....."self.. i need a drink so bad right now"..
ex. "gear up... shit the gear is not up.. gear down...gear up.. shit it still isnt' up.. god i need a drink right now"
or
.
"'this is winnipeg airport information alpha...weather 1500z, wind calm visibility 1/8 mile blowing snow'.......fuuuckkkk i need a drink...."

I'm usually thinking about what i'm going to drink about 200 miles out...Get ATIS, select TOL card, set EFIS control panel, freq's, "what am I going to drink", Program FMS, set HCP.
And like any good approach planning, I get home, and do as I planned without any deviations.

I tried to find it in the study notes, but nowhere does it have the correct answer to the medical examination question: "How many drinks per week?"

The 8 hour rule is a complete and utter fallacy and I really wish people would quite preaching 8 hours bottle to throttle. 8 Hour is the MINIMUM amount of time that you are required to wait. 602.03(b) clearly states No person shall act as a crew member of an aircraft while under the influence of alcohol. Know I do not know about you but I have been on a few benders in my time and there have been occasions when I was still under the influence of alcohol in the 24 to 36 hour arena. If you drink anything at all you must wait until you are no longer under the influence which means that your blood is free of alcohol or you have a 0.00% reading during a blood test. For some this can be quite a period depending on the amount consumed. Remember people you must comply with subsections a b and c of the regs. Oh and the number they where looking for was found in Air 3.11
Alcohol or Drugs - Crew Members
602.03 No person shall act as a crew member of an aircraft
(a) within eight hours after consuming an alcoholic beverage;
(b) while under the influence of alcohol; or
(c) while using any drug that impairs the person's faculties to the extent that the safety of the aircraft or of persons on board the aircraft is endangered in any way.
AIR 3.11 Alcohol
Never fly while under the influence of alcohol or drugs. It
is best to allow at least 24 hours between the last drink and
takeoff time, and at least 48 hours after excessive drinking.
Alcohol is selectively concentrated by the body into certain
areas and remains in the fluid of the inner ear even after all
traces of alcohol in the blood have disappeared. This accounts
for the difficulty in balance that is experienced in a hangover.
Even small amounts of alcohol (0.05%) have been shown in
simulators to reduce piloting skills. The effect of alcohol and
hypoxia is additive and at 6 000 feet ASL (1 829 m), the effect
of one drink is equivalent to two drinks at sea level. The body
metabolizes alcohol at a fixed rate and no amount of coffee,
medication or oxygen will alter this rate. ALCOHOL AND
FLYING DO NOT MIX.

Not the point, just with regards to the question per the exam. We are all human. This is strictly with regards to the regs and the question asked by X-Wind with regards to an exam. Oh and no I would night fly severely hung over... a few beers after work is one thing but I would not put my self into the position of having to call the chief to say I can't fly cause I was irresponsible and had a few too many the night before. You know missing work because of drinking is a sigh of alcoholism.

Do u think alot of people follow this rule to the letter, 8 hrs bottle to throttle. Ever heard of the saying 8 feet bottle to throttle. Ive seen countless pilots drinking when they have a flight less then 8 hrs, im not saying its right but thats the real world on how things are done. The bottom line is pilots drink, alot, who cares.
I can't believe you think its funny and ok to drink inside of 8 hours. It's not funny and certainly not professional. That's how its done in the real world? WTF are you kidding me.

If you drink to the point where you can not live up to your responsibilities, you are a drunk and a fool! And it WILL catch up to you. I guarantee it and I've seen it happen too many times already. It's OK to go out with the boys at night, just so long as you get up and go to work with the men in the morning. If you ever made that call to me, I'd tell you to take the day off. Had a blast Fri night and I knows it's Tues morning...but I really did tie one on with old Ernie and the Astronaut there, and anyway...still feeling a little hung.
