Anyone know about these guys, was checkin out the website.

Seems like they got some low time requirements for Captains and FO's for the size of aircraft(by that I mean over 12,5), nice to see some companies flying these not want retarted hours.

I've heard good things about them. How much longer they will be "on their own" might be a question, with some companies "joining forces" these days? Is this a concern? Perhaps not. I think they rotate some of their crews.

Arguably the best operation in YK. Everyone that works there is top-notch.

You get treated with respect and the new soon to be owners are easy to work for. The pay is comparable to other operators in YK. And there is actually a schedule each month so you know when youll have days off.

Rumor has it the whole company flew down to Golden BC to go skiing for a weekend courtesy of the company for a x-mas gift. Not many other companys would do that.

fleet is 3 dorniers and 3 skyvans

They only hire circus freaks, so if your a "normal" person, dont bother applying.

anyways thats all i have to say about that.

Hey Kut Kut,

maybe ill tell you what its like there when i start on the ramp in 2 weeks.

Hopefully it will be a bit nicer working at a place where i will only have 1-2 bosses, instead of 4 or 5.

The last guys were only on the ramp for 1 month but thats because they needed co-jos immediately.. it think it typically could be 6-9 months.. its really hard to say for sure tho.

And so far, I'd say it's all true, make sure you have a strong liver though.

I thought summit had more dorniers then that? Or is that all rumors also.

I hear they are great planes to fly the 228 and skyvan's, anybody out there gone up in them. Good time to give them a call i guess.

Hey Advent, no there really is jsut 3 dorniers flying now. A 4th is in mothballs outside in the snow, so well c what happens with that.

It seems like there is more then 3 doorknobs because they fly so much that it creates an illusion that there are at least 5. And of course they are so much faster then a twin otter so you cant read the call sign as they go blazzing by so its hard to tell if theres just 3 or if they keep spawning in the circus tent.

A similar Illusion that Donald illuded to is that when im playing my Air Guitar, (to Hells bells or a similar song) im actually not holding a real guitar, but its so realistic that it looks like there is a gutiar there. You have to watch closely when i do the knee slide and you will see that there is no guitar in my hands at all!

Anyways, thats all I have to say about that.

Oh ya thats cool, as for comparing the dornier to a twin otter, hate to tell you but the twin isn't that fast to begin with so whats that say for a dornier?.... I know they run around 200kts... dont get jumpy faux Angus

the knob isn't crazy fast, im sure you can find the numbers in the AFM somewhere.

I guess everything has its niche. It really comes down to what the customer wants.

Now the skyvan, we could start a whole new thread on that one....

Yeah I agree 100%, the dash7 is a hell of a performer, one of my favourite airplanes. It’s probably more of a performance issue with the crews.

Simple economics, what's the cost per pound to haul with the -7?

I'm willing to bet the Herc is cheaper per pound for the big loads, and that there are some twin engine aircraft cheaper for equivalent loads.

Yes, there are some that will haul more, or do it cheaper. But the -7 can haul that load onto a 2,000 ft ice strip in the winter, or Bathurst Inlet in the summer, and other such places, such as McKay Lake, and do it in a combi mode, which takes about 30 minutes to reconfigure. Sure its no ATR 42 for the long trips, but it has its niche, and the airplanes are rarely idle. Oh, oh is JRoc slagging the crews, we'll have to get them to read Avcanada.

Ya im sure the dash7 could make it into a Lac-de gras road camp or DO27, if the right pilot was flying. It is a real preformer. a good plane for the north. Must cost a lot to maintain tho.

The Dhc-5 could also make it into a sub-2000' strip if the right pilot is flying, too bad it has a 3000' strip limit. There so much work out there anyways it really dosen't matter anyhow. That really is an impressive plane. And its cost/mile (for the customer) is pretty cheap. Maintenance is another story of course!

So theres a few planes out there that have the knobs beat I guess... and they were made in CYZD instead of Deucheland, which always stirrs a little Canadian pride.

That's one thing about Yellowknife, there is a huge variety of aircraft. Try counting all the types you hear out there, or see on the ramps, pretty freakin cool, IMO.

Like you all said lots of cool planes in the north but as for the cost, well its all factored into it,wear and tear/mtc/profit.

And for sure you need a good pilot for any short strip, doesn't matter what plane. Having limits on min strip lengths is always a good and safe thing. Not too many DHC-5 kicking around and im sure ASC knows what they are doing. Getting into a short strip with 4100lbs im sure is not the easiest thing to do either.

But gotta hand it to those Germans they know how to build things.

OHHHH I was waiting for someone to mention RATM... A Tom Morrello air guitar is a tough one, but its the best to listen to I think. We go way back.. I htink thats how I learned to play the air guitar, listening to Rage.
