No one injured in northern plane crash (2:25 p.m.)
Blizzard blamed for rough landing

A Peace Air commuter jet trying to land in blizzard conditions crash landed at B.C.'s Fort St. John Airport this morning, shearing off its front landing gear, as well as the landing gear on its right side.
RCMP Cpl. Stephen Wile of Fort St. John said none of the 12 people on board, including two crew members and 10 passengers, were injured in the crash, which happened just after 11:30 a.m.
Wile said it appears that the Jet Stream twin engine turbojet touched down before reaching the southeast end of the runway. It was arriving from Grande Prairie.
“The plane ended up shearing off two rows of lights at the far end of the runway and ploughing through the heavy snow at the end of the runway,” Wile said.
Once on the tarmac, it veered to the right side of the runway where it stopped, badly banged up and leaning to the right. People remained on the plane until emergency service crews arrived to help them off.
“We’re very fortunate that the plane didn’t dig in at the end of the runway and start to catapult and turn over,” Wile said. “It could have been a far different situation.”
The weather was extremely poor at the time of the incident.
“We’re experiencing blizzard-type weather, snowfall, the snow is drifting and very strong northerly winds,” he said.
