well
depending on where you live is where you should make your Choice. I got my private licence at cooking lake. It was alright. You'll probably have Orville tell you he can get you a job right seat with Air Canada after you finish your commercial. Which is completely a load of poo poo. The planes are alright when I was there. There are schools around with better planes. Saw a couple things in the hangar to quickly fix an airplane that I would have rather not seen. The thing is that's an uncontrolled airport and when I came out of that airport I was all intimidated by ATC. Didn't really if I was doing everything right. So my suggestion is to look up centennial or namao flying club. EFC is alright too
Pilots are COOL!
Went there a few years back for a casual rental (wanted to take up a few friends I had living in the YEG area for scenic flights) and wasn't too impressed by the "checkout". There was maybe a 10 knot crosswind ( no big deal) and when I put the flaps down, the instructor put them back up on me when they were in transit and said not to use flaps in a crosswind. I realize flaps are not necessary, but you got 'em, why not use them? What I really didn't like was the fact that he didn't seem to know the answer as to why he wouldn't use flaps in a 10 knot crosswind.canadian320 wrote:Just curious to know about the school and your experiences in it
Other minor airmanship things made me go to YXD for the flights. Those are my experiences.

YEG's a hugely busy place; sometimes you even see the airplane in front of you.EchoNovemberAlpha wrote:Thanks mate...was acyually trying to be a bit optimistic about being able to do that at YXD itselfDunno how YEG compares with YYC regards traffic...and also how kindly they'll accommodate a Cessna doing missed approach

We go to YEG a lot for IFR training. and the controllers are awesome. It's much better than calgary and usually you will get what you want with rare speed restrictions. and no landing fees.
We also go to camrose and wetaskiwin for uncontrolled airport training.
CYXD 34 has ILS and 16 has LOC/BC/DME. so we sometimes go to whitecourt to do VOR approaches (part of cross-country)

Wetaskiwin
Yo,
Did my training at CEX3(Wetaskiwin) at Wetaskiwin Air Services. It was several years ago but the A/C were great and the instructors were very good. Its good for uncontrolled and your only .3 hop over to YEG. As for YEG compared to YYC, YEG is better for training, alot quiter airspace and some great staff in the tower. YXD is a blast to fly into and is a great airport for night training. ANyways I would recommend Wetaskiwin Air Services to anyone looking to fly. My two cents...........

The Cooking Lake guy?! Yeah, three years ago he was in the "Pre-Purchasing Stages" of a C-172 on floats. Still don't think they got it.
Reliable source witnessed a maintenance practice he would have no part of.
There was another company that came in and was giving some healthy competition at EZ3 but the name escapes me.

Oh well, at least maintenance has tidied it's act up since the new guy came.
You're thinking about Storm Aviation, and I'm pretty sure they're operating out of the Shell/Altaflights hanger at YEG now.
