Remembering Duke Elegant

Post by chipmunk »

...2 years ago yesterday.

I only knew the Duke through his stories on this website, augmented by the words of many of my colleagues who had previously worked with him. If I ever need a pick-me-up, I'll go through and read through some of his Tales of an Old Aviator, which alternately make me laugh and cry.

Take some time and go back and read a couple of his stories in the "Wall" forum. Even the newbies who never "knew" the Duke - it's a great, fresh perspective of someone living life to the fullest.

RIP.

He was a great guy to go out and have some beers with after work, once he got a couple of those golden throat charmers in him you knew some good stories would soon be told!

I have a great picture of the last time I saw him....me and PT6-114A flew a Beech staggerwing out to chilliwack to have pie with the duke...that was just a few months before he passed. Even then, in the depths of his battle he was smiling and telling stories!

RIP my good friend. You are missed.

yeah, thanks for posting. I completely re-read all his stories a few weeks ago. The last post still makes me shed a tear, from his Daughter. R.I.P. Elegant one... :smt039

With utmost respect to the Duke, wasn't someone supposed to be compiling all his stories into some form of compendium? Mighty fine reading.

Be a shame to loose any of that to a server crash.

I have seen him confuse a few barmaids with his request for a golden throat charmer. It always made me smile as it was his warm up act. I sure think of him often, mostly when this business starts getting to me. I remember what a great leader and example he was. I sure do wish I could have had more time with him as I had a lot more I could have learned.
