Hourly AME wage

Post by KISS_MY_TCAS »

Just polling to see where the current payscale hits the board....it's been a while since the last time this was polled and since then the industry has picked up, and from what I have been hearing wages are climbing due to high demand and low supply for experienced AMEs. Feel free to post with your range and wether you are 703/704/705, M1, M2 or both, line or heavy mtce. Apprentices, feel free to chime in and post hourly rates, but the poll is for licenced AMEs only for accuracy please. I suspect apprentices will all hit below $20/hour.

Its good to see nobody in the under 20 range. Even an apprentice with some experience is worth good money these days for a decent outfit. Good to see wages for AME's going up they deserve it!

bump...only 10 AMEs in one day? The poll is anonymous, no need to post at all other than clicking the poll, and I know there are more than 10 wrenches that surf the board. Even with the 10 so far, the results look a lot more promising than a couple of years ago.

Human Factor, EI due to injury or layoff? If that isn't asking too much....

EI due to relocation. My wife got a transfer and I had to leave my job to go with her. Who knew there'd be no opportunites where we landed? :?

35$/hr with both m1-m2. I know that this is low for an ame w/ 9 yrs. experience in western Canada.
Current company does wage reviews every spring but they won't divulge any info to the employees. They usually flatly say "we're within industry standards". Does any other company show the results of wage reviews or wage surveys to it's employees?? (Not to hijack TCAS's thread here)

I was also hoping to see more replies, as ame's (decent level of experience) are harder to find. I understand, as I am looking for a way out of the perpetual cycle of poor rates. With wages low across the board, moral seriously drops, so does productivity. Yet that really doesn't matter to most DOM's.

This thread is a great idea. I've been slightly afraid after hearing all the horror stories about extremely poor wages for AME's,(if all goes as planned I'll be in college this Sept for AME) however this seems reassuring.

This poll ignores the large group of engineers too poor to afford an Internet connection.

There are a lot of operators out there who still think they can pay crap wages because there used to be a bit of a glut of engineers on the market. Now there is a bit of a wake-up call. There is a severe shortage of experienced people out there. In YVR, I think pretty much every company is looking, some are even starting recruiting incentives for their people.

At the same time, one operator just hired an Engineer for $20/hr, this however in my opinion was too much money for what they got!! Good thing TC saw fit to licence this person.. If you are in YVR don't fly on blue and white floatplanes..

I would hope so, but I really think low wages are here to stay. The reason is that there will always be some schmo who willingly takes a reduced rate for a job. Reasons:
1) moving to location regardless, ie:wife transfered to new job
2) sick of living at past location
3) bad rep or low experience, really really needs job
That's why low wages are a perpetual cycle.

I did the same poll not long ago, maybe between the two we can get some accurate information.

Wow Im kinda shocked by this poll.. Those are some low rates. I know AMEs are far bellow the automotive mechanics but wow.

My AME charges 50 bucks an hour, up from 40 bucks he was chargine before until last month.

If your AME is charging $50/hr, then he/she is an idiot. The rate at my airport is $78/hr. People have to stop giving in to owners and charge what they are worth.. If you can afford to own it, you can afford to fix it..
