It's not Sunwest.

They do Kelowna, Kamloops, and Victoria.

Dynamic does some as well into BC.

I've been called for some subcharters for bag runs into Cranbrook.

For the question about bag runs, also, for oil work, let's say two king airs are taking crew up for a change, they may not be able to fit all their bags, so they would send another plane to take their bags.

They usually travel with hockey size bags.

The bags that are going north out of our facility they very rarely charter another plane, they usually take it up the next day on a plane that is going to the same strip. Most of the carriers limit the weight of the bags to 70 lbs and anything over that weight (divided over all the pax) is not allowed on the flight.

As for the metros that do the bag runs they are hauling clearing house notes for banks. No monitary vallue just cancelled checks and visa slips. they arrive in the morning and then return back to Vancouvver or Calgary (which every province the flight originated in)

Heard that each "bag" is insured to the tune of $600,000. So probably not a big waste of money.

for christ sakes people....i just wanted to know the name of the company that flies the bank bags into penticton, and if someone knows the daily route that aircraft takes each morn/afternoon, then that would be a bonus. i could care less about rig pig bags in edmonton.

It is Carson Air, based out of YVR. They actually do YVR-YYF-YLW-YCG-YYF-YLW-YVR!!! Wx permitting.

I heard they do 15 hour duty days...five days a week  . Holy crap i wouldn't want that job :butthead: .

That is the run and operator as I understand it too.

Fifteen hour duty days suck. I've done it before and would not willingly go back to it.

that is definitely true....on those days it's okay....it's the days when you have to sit in YVR all morning waiting for wx to lift in YCG (or wherever), then have to head out and you don't get your rest. But, if the day goes as planned, its bearable.
altiplano wrote:I'm sure carson gets a day room for the guys and brilliant aviation in cg has a crew car (or at least used to) that you can use, fly for a few hours in the am... watch tv, take a nap, go for lunch... fly for a few hours in the pm...
and yes, crew cars, hotel room (or crew house) are all provided...although sometimes the crew houses leave a lot to be desired.

you build lots of time, though, and get really good experience, then move on.

Mostly....I think there are 1 or 2 III's.
altiplano wrote:How much are they paying the guys?
Not enough. It should be at least 15-20% higher for the work they do. And they do this 5 days per week, most weeks. It's too much. with a sked like that, it should be 4 days per week, max.

Back in the later 90's Carson used to do the YYC-Kelowna-Kamloops run, no day rooms at first, the pilots slept in the back of the Metro in the Loops for a few hours before ending up in YYC each night.... Brutal.

I'm not saying it's perfect. I've been there in the past and know how it is.

BUT - I'd take long days M-F, a schedule, and be based in YVR over a lot of jobs at this level of the industry.
