I'm 1.1 hours into flight training. I didn't get to land myself due to a bad crosswind, but it was f'ing fun anyway. I'm learning in a Cherokee because I don't fit very well in a C150, which is my other option. What a rush. Peace.

Enjoy all of it. There is a lot of work to do. The cherokee is a great plane to learn on. You may want to also try a C172 or a Warrior as well if you get the chance.

good for you besides in my opinion cherokee's are easier to land due to the low wing and ground effect, have fun

Good for you. Now a little advice to save yourself some hassle when it come time for your solo: Get a medical and do the PSTAR exam. Ask your instructor about a cat 4 medical so you can solo before your medical certificate comes in the mail. Get this done ASAP. That's free advice.

I've already had a class 1 medical, because I plan on getting a commercial license, and that would be a big waste of money if I was to find out, after spending cubic dollars, that I was inelligable(sp?) for some unknown reason. Is this different than a cat 4 medical? I don't know what a pstar exam is? Further, I've missed the last 2 weekends flying(1 weather, 1 with a bad cold) so I've got some time making up to do. Thanks!

the PSTAR is the student permit, it has a 50 question written test and allows you to solo for the purpose of training assuming you have your medical, etc. IIRC the class 4 is a self declared medical required for ultralight isnt it?
Have fun!

The cat 4 medical can be used, among other things, to go solo or to get your rec permit. If you have a cat 1 then you don't need to worry as long as you actually physically have the medical certificate in your hands. Just because you've done the medical doesn't mean TC will send the certificate in time for your solo.

Thanks for the answers. How long, on average, does TC take to get the certificate out to you?

I've experienced everything from a couple day to never. I'd say if you don't have it in a month you should make some calls to TC.

Update time. I'm about 5 or 6 hours in now, and experienced my first spin yesterday. While plummeting to almost certain death, I was able to override my instincts, and remove my hand that had shot out to grab the controls. What a fucking twisty ride(excuse my language). I can't wait to do it again. Peace.

That's awesome!
Fly hard, but fly safe. It'll save you both ways in the long run. Spins are fun eh?

Some are. The PA28-140 is.

Apparently the Cherokees I've been flying are not spin worthy, we did the spins in a 150. I just did my first circuits on the weekend. The solo seems so far away right now. After how many hours does the average person fly before the first solo?

The average pilot takes about 3 hours of dual to solo. A complete maladroit takes about 4. Why, how many hours of dual have you got?

I guess the Extra 300 can't do spins then

What?
I'd say more like average 10, good one 6-7.
