Collcetcorp & TC

Post by Doc »

Most of us, by now have received our "love letters" from these bottom feeders. I called them today, and got a very nice friendly lady named Jacki on the line. It appears that the income tax "scoop" isn't working for TC. Poor things are not seeing their money fast enough. So, they are not taking money from tax returns anymore. Too many of us have been "going that route". I know I was never invoiced for 55$. So, now we're just expected to send money to TC? Don't know where, or when, but if we don't comply, off to a collection agency it goes?
I've sent my MP a letter. I guess TC has indeed become the modern day Gestapo? And Cat has been right all along!
If we own you money....send us a stinking bill!

Last week I received a 40 dollar GST cheque which was suppose to be 240 dollars but it showed TC had taken 200 of it for the 55 charge. Then this week I received a 20 dollar cheque saying they took too much off, followed by a letter from collect corp the next day saying I owed 200 dollars !!!. Who the hell is at the wheel here ?

When this filing fee started, it created quite a stink with the Doctors performing medicals as they "refused to be tax collectors".

Rather than caving to the MD's and their association, TC should have just insisted they collect the fee and submit it just as retail and service providers do with GST.

I'd much rather see the MD get a small cut than give it to a debt collection agency.

Problem solved.

You are making the presumption on the premise that a fee is warrented.
The fee was to pay for the AIP. AIP has gone the way of ethics in TC.

I for one, believe his is just another tax based on the huge propoganda of "user fees".

Good for the doctors.

I've heard this for years and years as well, but has anyone actually found anything in writing that states this as a fact? The closest that I've found were posted in the other thread discussing this issue, although it references "safety publications", of which the AIP was only one:

TC sends Collection Agency after me (information related to the CAMEs refusing to collect the fees)
TC sends Collection Agency after me (information related to the change in fee structure)
Currently, Schedule IV to Subpart 4, item 20, lists a separate fee for the processing of a medical certificate for each combination of type of pilot licence or permit and for each validity period. The validity period is the maximum amount of time that a pilot may fly before he/she must again satisfy the Department of Transport that he/she continues to satisfy the medical criteria for the applicable licence or permit. These validity periods vary according to the type of licence or permit held and the age of the applicant. For example, the validity period for a commercial or airline transport pilot under 40 years old is 12 months while that for a commercial or airline transport pilot 40 or over is 6 months. On the other hand, the validity period for a recreational pilot permit may be either 2 years (for a pilot aged 40 or older) or 5 years (for a pilot younger than 40). In total, there are 14 separate combinations of pilot documents and validity periods for which a fee is charged for the processing of a medical certificate. The fees range from a low of $55, generally for a 6 month or a 12 month validity period, to $185, for a 5-year validity period. These fees were intended to recover not only the costs of processing medical certificates but also the costs of other services provided to pilots without charge, such as safety publications.

Over the coming year, Transport Canada intends to make many of its publications available on the Internet free of charge. Included in this plan are many of the safety publications provided to pilots. The costs of producing and mailing safety publications to pilots will significantly diminish. Consequently, the justification for higher fees based on the length of the medical certificate validity period diminishes as well.

This amendment will replace the 14 separate combinations of pilot documents and validity periods and the 4 alternative fees with a single fee for the processing of pilot medical certificates, regardless of the type of licence or permit held or of the length of the validity period. The new fee will be the lowest of the current 4 alternative possibilities, i.e., $55 for the processing of a medical certificate. Those pilots currently paying $55 for the processing of their medical certificates will continue to pay $55. Those pilots who currently pay more than $55 will realize a reduction of between $15 and $130 in the fees they pay under this proposal.

Actually Trey, I made the assumption that the fee must be paid and as such, paying at source is the most logical solution. Whether it is warranted or justified is another issue. It is only a tax in the sense that terminal and enroute fees are taxes. I think the soft-sell phrase is "user fee".

Don't worry, I am no more a fan of TC than Cat Driver is. It is a morally bankrupt and corrupt organization that houses a large group of industry misfits, miscreants, liars and hack politicians...and that is the best I can say of them.

Well don't beat around the bush then, tell us what you really think of TC.

Sorry for the inference. I just get all boiled up when someone just wants to roll over and give the government whatever they want. You are quite correct in your thinking that there were two issues here.

The above is merely a description of the quality of the organization.

It does not fully describe the real danger this criminally corrupt organization poses to aviation.

The real danger is under its present leadership it is unacountable to those who it is supposed to serve, us the citizens of Canada.

The blame for that lies in the lack of concern and or fear from the industry to make these morally corrupt people answer to the Minister of Transport who is to be as kind as I can be, either ignorant of the contempt for law displayed by TCCA mamagement under the present DGCA or he is culpable and part of the moral rot at the top.

Nothing will ever change until the Canadian public is enraged enough to force change through Parliament.

If the Harper crowd is as lacking in ethics as those before them it is time to kick them out of power when they call the next election.

You maybe missed my post of several months ago where I described a phonecall to Ottawa. My purpose was to object to the fee itself since I saw it as too high, especially twice a year.

The objectionable wanker I spoke to had no interest in the matter and clearly stated in the conversation that part of the $55 fee was being used to pay for the AIP. The chat ended with the fact that he was happy I was paying double and he got his for free.

In the face of the continued accusation, we have not seen anyone from TCCA publicly state that the fee was NOT used to underwrite the AIP (Or anything else.) You would think they would be happy to reply to a wrongful accusation

Snaproll20 :

You are well aware of why TC does not answer any questions or allegations here on Avcanada.

They are so far above you and me, mere peasants and surfs that it would be lowering their self serving elitist attitudes to acknowlege we exist.

When you are all powerful you have no need to answer questions from those below your status.

In other words in pilot talk they are arrogant self serving cockroaches.

I think that's the issue as well. Other than the documention indicating that the fee has been used for "safety publications", where has it been applied specifically? If part of the fee was to offset the cost of production and distribution of the AIP, then it could certainly be reduced now as the AIM must be purchased (if you want a hard copy). If the fee is going to the production of other publications, then what are they?

It's not an overthrow that we need, it's a complete revamping of the whole federal system. If you put the Green Party in power tomorrow TC would still be doing what they do.....then probably more tax collecting for the enviromental damage pilots cause with those filthy, air pollutin' airplanes. :axe:

Should we have a politician brave enough to promise to tear down the massive amounts of federal government agencies to the bear bones and simplify our tax system.... do you think he'd get elected? The government is Canada's largest employer! Even Kim Jong-il would be too scared to try that.
