By Alex Morales
March 23 (Bloomberg) -- Iran seized 15 British sailors and Marines who were conducting ``routine boarding operations'' in Iraqi waters, the U.K. Ministry of Defence said.
``The boarding party had completed a successful inspection of a merchant ship when they and their two boats were surrounded and escorted by Iranian vessels into Iranian territorial waters,'' the ministry said in an e-mailed statement. ``We are urgently pursuing this matter with the Iranian authorities at the highest level.''

The Iranians are going to make nice target practice in Iraqi waters .
They will whine and bitch just like the Argentinians'who started a fight with the Royal Marines and got their little bottoms smacked .
Picking a fight with the Royal Navy and Marines has to be the dumbest thing anyone could ever do .They have centuries of WINNING against allcomers.
Still how many times have you seen someone start a fight and then complain when they get hurt.

They were investigating a suspicious cargo ship, that could had been carrying contraband. However, the area where the Brits were seized is a disputed water, of which Iraq and Iran claim, and the Brits were in the Iraqi claimed and controlled portion of the sea. The Brits after checking out the cargo ship were just about to leave when the Iranians suddenly appeared and seized them.bmc wrote:What were the Brits doing there? I mean besides the obvious of bringing freedom and democracy and looking for WMD?
WJflyer you're very well informed. I find it irresponsible of you to pass off the swill from main stream media as fact. When passing info such as this you may consider prefacing it by saying "the offical story is" or "Fox news told me". Give your info in its proper context will ya. The only fact is you don't know what happened or exactly where and niether does any one else on this form.

There was no Gulf of Tonkin incident or not the one the press and the US federal govenment would have us all believe. It was a total lie to get the USA involed in Vietnam.

Iran insists Britons were in its water, denounces 'blatant aggression.
AP news just put this story out. Is it true? Probably not!

The coalition forces aka the USA and Great Britian think Iraq 2 is hard, it won't be nothing compared to Iran. They're not Arabs their Persians and they're just waiting for them to do something stupid.... again.

Do you think your average "Persian" would fight for 'whereismydinnerjacket' .I think that they would fight NO harder than the average Italian did for il duci .Which is not really hard at all .
This is one of the main reasons that the leaders of IRAN want WMD because they cannot find enough people to fight for them against all the people that the leaders of that country have upset since the revolution.
In fact the average persian left that shinning example of what happens when a country becomes a theocrazy islamic repubic a long time ago.Been in North Vancouver lately .You will meet some sensible Iranians there they got out of that place on the first available donkey cart out.

Based on what evidence, swede? The shape of the shit you had this morning?swede wrote:This incident is very likely staged, if there is even a semblance of truth to it. A pretext is needed to begin hostilities, and bush and his lapdog blair are likely to make a move against Iran over this one. Or is it just a funny coincidence, don't think so..

Link: http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/w ... 563877.eceA website run by associates of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the Iranian president, reported last night that the Britons would be put before a court and indicted.
Referring to them as “insurgents”, the site concluded: “If it is proven that they deliberately entered Iranian territory, they will be charged with espionage. If that is proven, they can expect a very serious penalty since according to Iranian law, espionage is one of the most serious offences.”
Eeeenteresting. This is BIG news if true.
U.S. Navy destroyers are probably waltzing around within Frisbee range of Iranian offshore-drilling platforms. 4 carrier groups now in Persian Gulf, EU calling for the release of brits...
get the popcorn ready the show is starting!

No President or Prime Minister, not even a liberal appeaser, can afford to let a hostile enemy nation begin kidnapping its sailors and threatening its battleships.
Iran has played its last card. It has a certain amount of time to pull that card back; after that begins the escalation, starting with the ravaging of all its military-capable ports.
Bear in mind:
America doesn't mind air wars or naval wars so much. Actually, they excel at them.
Ground wars not so much.

Very true Jake, and the 15 Brit sailors when it escalates to that point?JakeYYZ wrote:No President or Prime Minister, not even a liberal appeaser, can afford to let a hostile enemy nation begin kidnapping its sailors and threatening its battleships.

Attacking Iran would be disastrous for the UK/USA - it would make Iraq look like a McDonalds play-pen in comparison.
That being said, the US is already posturing for war with Iran, army brigades have been relocated to the iraqi/iranian border, additional carrier groups have been moved into the gulf (4 now), and Patriot batteries are being placed to protect key oil onloading and offloading ports (Iran's likely first strike). It may not be bush's intention to make war with Iran, but i'd imagine that Cheney and his lakeys love the idea.
