Afternoon everyone, I need a little advice/insight. I want to start my instructor rating. I live north of Toronto, A few friends and collegues have suggested Canadian Flyers, Future Air and Brampton Flight Centre. I was wondering if anyone had any other recommendations, or good/bad experiences to comments on with said school? thnx for your input!

Toronto Airways. Buttonville. Lots of flying, lots of students. Strong teachers. Great CFI.

They actually need some new instructors right now too

Will that restriction of CPL training bill or law or whatever in Ontario slow down instructor hiring...or cancel out instruction jobs at all? I think Im going to learn to be an instructor...and I know there's a lot of FI hiring now...but come a couple months...will that change very much? Any comments on the subject appreciated.

It would suck to get the rating and have schools cut back on instructors because of that bill and be up corn hole creek haha. Thanks all.

Please. Someone is not going to look at your resume and say, hey, he received his training at School A so we should hire him. If you are able to obtain a license, you have obviously met the Transport Canada Standards. I personally dont think people care where you trained at. Unless of course you are a Seneca Grad. They seem to have a mindset of their own.

Shop around the golden horseshoe.
You are investing money in a rating with direct application to the school you train at. Make it simple. They want your business, you get a job afterwards. If not, go somewhere else.

There must be some people that taught at these schools that can give some feedback.
What's are working conditions like?
Is more than just instructing expected from you? Are you paid for the front-desk job?
What's the CFI like?

I was implying that if you get your rating at a specific school, what are the prospects of getting hired on after you complete your rating.

Did my initial class 4 at Brampton back in '97. Nice varied fleet to train on (152, 172, 172RG, Katana, PA28, Supercub) which is not only more fun but gives you a wider experience. CFI at that time (and I don't really wish to talk ill of the dead) was a bit of a challenge to work for (to put it politely).

The fleet is the same, but the new CFI is much better. He's also one of the best guys to do your rating with if he has the time available. He's one of the few class 1's that actually teach you HOW to teach first, then teaches you WHAT to teach.... there's a difference. Most schools will give you the basics that will get you through your ride with Transport and that's about it. If that's what you're looking for, probably any place will do.

By all means, you should check out any and all schools you are considering doing your instructor rating at. You're going to be spending a lot of money (similar to what you had spent on your private all together), so maybe show up and do a little recce on your own. Most schools prefer to hire their own home-grown talent, so this might be a factor in your decision to do your rating at school A over B or C.
