I just saw it on the CBC news.. They say its not going to close totally but just restructure as a charter only company, but everyone was rescheduled on a different airline. I Hope that means that people won't lose their jobs in the meantime. Best of luck to all at Harmony.

Globe and Mail Update

VANCOUVER — Four years after launching his own airline in response to being stranded in an airport while on vacation with his daughter, Vancouver entrepreneur David Ho has thrown in the towel: Harmony Airways Inc. will end scheduled flights April 9.

The airline could resurface as a charter carrier or use some other business model, a company spokesman said at a news conference to announce what the company called a “restructuring.”

...

Most of the airline's 350 employees have been given layoff notices.

Statement on Harmony's Website: http://www.harmonyairways.com/

My best wishes to those of you who lost your jobs.

So now some other poor sod is stranded at some other airport with his son, thinking "this sucks, one of these days I will start MY own airline!" And so the vicious circle continues.

Sorry for the employees of this airline. However, not surprised to see it coming. The airline industry in Canada makes unprotected sex look relatively low-risk.

Best of luck to all the staff involved. Sorry to see another Canadian airline go under....and this time it was an airline I didn't expect.

Emirates.

Post by Howdy »

Well guys my sister has been caught up in this. She wasn't a pilot, but lost her job just the same.
Anyway, Emirates and the other gulf carriers are crying out for pilots. I know it's not Vancouver, but it's a stable job.

My heart goes out to all who lost their jobs. I know first-hand how much this sort of "re-structuring" really sucks when you're still trying to make rent payments, car payments etc...

For those who don't get discouraged easily, there are plenty of jobs out there so don't let this set-back get you down. For those who do get discourged easily, start your networking right now even if it just for moral support. You will all get through this fine.

If anyone wants a shoulder to cry on, or maybe a phone number or two of others to call, just PM me.

Not necessarily surprising. I mean, it's been rumoured they were losing 3mil a month.

Really - why don't you enlighten us then?

What are you some co-joe or maybe an ex captain - cause we all know you guys know everything. They weren't making money - why do you think they are shutting down?

BTW - if I wanted to post rumors - I would post the one about how Dr. Hoe is shutting down Harmony because he's been diognosed with a terminal disease, and nobody would know how to keep going if he's not around (not that anybody there really knew where they were going anyway) At least that's what's going around YVR right now - but while I suppose it's possible - I personnally don't think it's very likely.

So there's your new rumor.

AFAIK Harmony was a private company and there finances where never subject to publication, so really no one but share holders know of the numbers.

Boeingboy - Did I say Harmony was making money? We all know why Harmony is shutting down. I asked 3 simple questions. Why don't you enlighten me? Please tell me, how do you know Harmony lost $150 million, you know this for a fact? Nobody here at Harmony knows how much we lost (including me), with exception of the upper management team and the people who are preparing the financial reports for Dr. Ho.

Your comment about Harmony's pilots is without class. Yes, I was a pilot for Harmony, what has my profession to do with this?? May I ask what your profession is, making you an expert in judging Harmony and its pilots???

Nothing like having Jackie Chan on the payroll...

Was on a layover in Maui on April 13th staying at the Coast in Kihei. Just outside the hotel there was some chalk art on the sidewalk slowly fading away... it said "Harmony Airways Forever" and had a heart with an arrow through it.
Nearly brought a tear to my eye.

I've been through the layoff thing a couple of times myself and have a pretty good idea what these guys are going through. Keep your chins up and I can practically guarantee you that in 18 months time, you'll all have great jobs and will be making more money that you did at Harmony.

All the best to the crews of Harmony and thanks for providing the best flight service and schedules to Hawaii for as long as you did.

Cheers,
Nimbo
