WJA & W-M together, sharing the same core values PWestJet gets Wal-Mart nod as chain's preferred carrier
WestJet Airlines Ltd., Canada's second-biggest carrier, said Wal-Mart Stores Inc. selected it as its preferred provider in the country for business travellers.
The agreement will boost WestJet's revenue in Canada and increase market share within Wal-Mart's domestic and international business, the airline said yesterday.
WestJet, based in Calgary, didn't provide financial terms. WestJet said it offered low-cost fares to secure the contract with Wal-Mart, the world's biggest retailer. WestJet, a discount carrier modelled on Southwest Airlines Co., anticipates the agreement will help it win more corporate customers as it competes with ACE Aviation Holdings Inc., parent company of the country's biggest airline, Air Canada.
Irony lost on Westjet
