TC medical fees to be paid via Collectcorp
I just recieved a not so friendly letter in the mail from Collectcorp demanding money for medical fees since Revenue Canada no longer deducts them from my tax return. I called with a couple questions but the person on the other line wasnt too bright or friendly, so maybe someone here can shed some light on this. The letter says I can pay at the bank but the person I spoke to said that CIBC would probably be the only bank to go to. Anyone have any problems going to other banks? Thanks in advance!
I don't know about the banks. Never bothered to ask, I just told them where they could shove their collection notice...
I told them with plenty of expletives how I didn't like the threatening tone of the letter so they get nothing from me. The guy said they will take me to court. I just laughed and said we both know that would cost more than the outstanding amount and I was going to make them work for it. He didn't seem very impressed but not surprised. I bet they get treatment like that all the time.
I like the 48 hour deal on the letter....Next time send it registered mail so you can prove I even got it before you put a time limit on it.
These guys are a bunch of clowns, full of bluster and crap to scare people into paying. Like I say, they will work for my money...

So, now I am really pissed!!!
I just got the rather offensive Collect Corp letter.
I phoned to give them the receipts numbers because the full amount was already paid.
True, one invoice was old but here is the chronology of the other:
Invoice issued by TC 7th Feb 2007.
Paid (within 30 day due date) 21 Feb 2007
Date on Collection agency letter 3rd April 2007
( 40 days after payment)
So, why am I pissed????
A rather pleasant lady at Collect-Corpse took my information and then told me the bill "was paid in full already". (so, why dun me?) When I asked who had paid it, she said "Transport Canada".
So why are these idiots at Transport giving my full fee to a collection agency?
If they need it badly enough why the hell don't they keep it and put it to the squandering, useless, immoral and stupid purpose I have been paying into for the past number of years?
Do we have another Adscam going on here?
And there are people on Avcanada who DEFEND TCCA?????????????

hmmmph, old nick dosnt work.
Anyways,
DO NOT PAY A COLLECTION AGENCY DIRECTLY.
If you must pay TC your fee (ie. you feel like they deserved it for not sending you your AIP inserts), do it direct to them. Collection agencies will tell you anything to part with your money, even if they can get one penny. When you get a call from a collection agency, chances are they have already screwed your credit. The best thing you can do is pay TC directly, make sure you document it (like keep your cancelled cheque or send a money order or keep your credit card receipt), and check your credit report in about a couple months. If they did put something derogatory on it, send copies (make sure you keep the originals) by registered letter to Equifax and Trans Union and ask them to correct your credit report as you paid your account in full DIRECTLY.
Collection agencies are not powerful, they will try every intimidation trick in the book, but if they threaten you (like they are going to sue you or put a lien on your house) report them to your provincial consumer affairs department as that is ILLEGAL. They cannot threaten they are from the legal department, or they are going to sue or lien you, unless TC or whomever the creditor is, specifically asks them to (ask them if they have authorization from the creditor to sue, and ask them to prove it in writing. When they don't, ask their name and licence number and report inform them you are going to report them, and do).
If you want to play hardball with them (and believe me I would love to if I got one of these letters) tell them you will make payments of $0.50 per month. The funny thing is they have to accept that. The problem is, once you do up a payment plan or settlement with them you can bet for sure it will show up on your credit report (and you have to stick to it).
Remember, Collection agencies are the lowest scum of the earth. They are students (like we once were) wondering how to pay for thier next cheeseburger. In fact, come to think of it, alot of us were once looking for how to pay for our next cheesburger. The main difference is that we didnt do it by blood sucking from the poor for the weathly corporations (and corrupt government offices). I would be curious what the legality is of TC sending these accounts to collection in the first place. Does this mean that if you dont pay your taxes, that you will get a call from collections? Im inclined to call my MP and ask him if this is the new government policy.

As I stated in the other thread, I paid a couple of times when this "Recurring Pilot Fee" was first instituted and then stopped paying it. I recieved an invoice for $55.00 twice a year from TC after my medical renewal and promtly threw them in the garbage where they belonged.
I recieved my medical renewal forms evey 2 years, so I assumed TC had either forgotten me or the fee was illegally removed from or added to my tax returns.
I duly sent some letters and emails to Ottawa the same as others here. I guess they didn't forget me
I got a nasty letter from Collectcorp today, April 10th dated April 3rd demanding the sum of $660.00 within 48 hours.
Am I to believe that TC has not pursued this for 6 years? I don't think so. I am going to have to dig out my old tax returns and see how much they have squeezed out of poor hide.
Oh yeah and WTF does "Govern myself accordingly" mean??
And just who in the @#$! is this "Salma Sheikh" they want me to entrust my credit card number to? Are they fucking kidding here or what!
I beleive I said before, they can kiss my ass!!

I apologise for my language, but this really burns me up. Bent over, dry humped and not even a reach around.

Rule #62 "Don't take yourself so damn seriously"
Just read the part about employers and credit checks. Now weve seen it all. I am an employer myself (and formerly an employer in aviation) and I cannot see the logic behind getting a credit check for employees. More often than not a credit report is loaded with bunk, and to base a decision like hiring someone tells me a lot about a company (ie. I would not want to work there). Do they want you to pay them to work there?
Just my 2 cents

I still have not got a letter from ColllectCorp.
But if I do in the garbage it goes.....
Anyone got a double registered letter from them yet?
Remember if it is not double registered and you signed for it their letter means sweet fu.k all.
Anyhow I hope all you lucky Canadains are proud of your Aviation Regulator, right up there with Nigeria.
Just gotta roll over on the floor and laugh at this bunch of idiots.

K, I gotta jump in on this one.... first, as someone posted:
"And just who in the @#$! is this "Salma Sheikh" they want me to entrust my credit card number to? Are they fucking kidding here or what!"
EXACTLY.... who is this person, and WHY put the CC number in this name, "in trust"???? WTF, OVER??
Second, doesn't a company have to send you a BILL first, then send the bottomfeeders? can they just send the bottomfeeders? I doubt it....
I do believe i am going to call TC about this.... I think we ALL should, and keep it up... after all, like most, the fees were automatically taken off my tax refund, so they still got their money, why this step, with the threatening letters and shit....
talk about a load of horseshit... bah.....i'm going back to my rye and coke

That is counter productive." I do believe i am going to call TC about this.... I think we ALL should "
Calling TC will only get you frustrated because they are bureaucrats who are only doing what their bosses want.
Trying to reason with a bureaucrat is hopeless.
TCCA is like a ship at full throttle going in circles with no rudder and no crew on board.
Call your MP..or better yet write your MP.

This post and the previous one about medical fees and collection agency stuff has received 13,000 views and 300 posts at this point in time.
Everyone is annoyed and bubbling over with being offended. It has garnered a lot of interest.
I find it interesting that when I posted a poll concerning the need for an Ombudsman for Transport Canada, (who would take care of these nasty instances), there were not many views and a minute number of posts. (Mind you, it was 100% for!)
So do I understand from this that people would rather huff and puff than actually do something collectively constructive?

I have never in my life recieved a bill for medical processing fees from TC. Every year I got a medical renewed they have taken it off my taxes(except the first time, the doc's office took the money and sent it in for me, nice guys, really liked that group, don't practice anymore, shame...)
Any who, this year TC took the fee from my taxes once more, only this time instead of the $55, they took some retarded number like $33.47. Bunch of fuckin' intellects they are...

I totally agree with everything 152driver has said about collection agencies.
I’ve been in negotiations with a collection agency for a few months now and have done a lot research on the best way to deal with them. Let me pass on some of the things I’ve learned that have worked very well. This not only applies to the Transport medical fee, but to anyone that's had an account sent to a collection agency for any reason.
1. Before contacting them, become fully aware of the Collection Agencies Act which details what they are allowed and not allowed to do.
http://www.e-laws.gov.on.ca:81/ISYSquer ... .tmp/2/doc
http://www.e-laws.gov.on.ca:81/ISYSquer ... .tmp/1/doc
2. Record all of your conversations with them which is very easy to do since most portable mp3 players have a voice recorder and it’s perfectly legal to do in Canada and also admissible in court.
3. They will always lie to you at first and then when you correct them by telling them of the appropriate legislation they will claim they didn’t know about it, even if that legislation was passed over a decade ago.
4. After they lie to you, tell them you are fully aware of the Collection Agencies Act and that the penalties are quite severe and include fines and/or jail time for the individual, their bosses, and their company if they threaten you in any way with false or misleading information. They will immediately back down and change their story. Hang up at this point as you now have all the information you need.
5. Send them a letter detailing the illegal information you have been given which has been recorded along with your settlement offer and wait for their reply....If you want you can even go higher up if you're really pissed...
152Driver has also given good advice on contacting TransUnion and Equifax directly to check your credit report and dispute anything you don’t agree with. It’s also possible to instantly download a current copy of your credit report for a few dollars from Equifax’s website.
Here’s some of the most relevant information from the Collection Agencies Act copied from the links above:
“Offences
28. (1) Every person who, knowingly,
(a) furnishes false information in any application under this Act or in any statement or return required to be furnished under this Act or the regulations;
(b) fails to comply with any order, direction or other requirement made under this Act; or
(c) contravenes this Act or the regulations,
and every director or officer of a corporation who knowingly concurs in such furnishing, failure or contravention is guilty of an offence and on conviction is liable to a fine of not more than $50,000 or to imprisonment for a term of not more than two years less one day, or to both. R.S.O. 1990, c. C.14, s. 28 (1); 2004, c. 19, s. 6 (2).”
“23. (1) No collection agency or collector shall directly or indirectly threaten, or state an intention, to commence a legal proceeding for the collection of a debt, unless the collection agency or collector has the written authority of the creditor to commence the proceeding, and the proceeding is not otherwise prohibited by law. O. Reg. 103/06, s. 2.
(2) No collection agency or collector shall recommend to a creditor that a legal proceeding be commenced for collection of a debt, unless the collection agency or collector first gives notice to the debtor of its intention to make the recommendation. O. Reg. 103/06, s. 2.
(3) No collection agency or collector shall commence a legal proceeding for the collection of a debt,
(a) in the name of the creditor, unless the collection agency or collector has the written authority of the creditor to do so; or
(b) as a plaintiff, unless the following conditions have been satisfied:
(i) The creditor has assigned the debt to the collection agency or collector by written instrument and for valuable consideration, and the creditor has no further interest in the debt.
(ii) If a legal proceeding was commenced by the creditor prior to assigning the debt, the collection agency or collector has given written notice to the debtor of the assignment.
(iii) If a legal proceeding was not commenced by the creditor prior to assigning the debt, the collection agency or collector has given written notice to the debtor of the assignment and, either separately or together with the written notice of assignment, has given notice to the debtor of its intention to commence a legal proceeding. O. Reg. 103/06, s. 2.
24. No collection agency or collector shall,
(a) give any person, directly or indirectly, by implication or otherwise, any false or misleading information;
(b) misrepresent to any person contacted in respect of the debt the purpose of the contact or the identity of the creditor or of the collection agency or collector; or
Corporations
(2) Where a corporation is convicted of an offence under subsection (1), the maximum penalty that may be imposed upon the corporation is $250,000 and not as provided therein. R.S.O. 1990, c. C.14, s. 28 (2); 2004, c. 19, s. 6 (3).”

Awe....
Magellan, you not gellin??
You need some Dr. Scholes....
Gotta say you did a great job spooling up a few readers. haha
Having said that, a tip of the hat to Ludacris.... That was a very informative post.
what actually would happen if we all took a stand and no one paid???
With all the pilots out there, I'm sure TC would take notice real quick.
I'm also sure that Sh&*head Slama Sheikh Shmuck would get real upset when no money came rollin in.
Not only would it be a gas...It would work!
If one guy doesn't pay no big deal
But if 20000 pilots don't pay, oh man we can cause some serious damage.
Maybe even make The National on CBC or even better... The Hour...in HD!

Son, someday you will make a girl very happy, for a short period of time. Then she`ll leave you and be with new men who are ten times better than you could ever hope to be. These men are called pilots.

I was quite choked as well..I recieved no previous invoice or my medical..just a letter saying that " collections action was being taken against me for my outstanding fees" Why would I pay for something unless I got a invoice? ESPECIALLY TO TC
However, in defense of "Collectcorp"...they are easier to deal with than TC..In fact, I think TC should hire some of those " Collectcorp" folks! At least the nice collections agent I was reaming out spoke English!!
When I was told to phone TC by the lady at collectcorp. The TC rep. I was speaking with barely spoke English!! On quite a few occasions i've had to speak ...SLLLLLLLOOOOWWWWLLLLYYYY and repeat my last transmission.

Now, Now, Canpilot...
That is not nice remember you are living in the wonderful mindset of multi culturalizim and you should be a good little Canadian and be thankful that anyone can hold any position in the workforce.
Have you considered that not being able to understand them may be a blessing?

Well gang I finally got mine.
No need for me to answer because the ball is back in their court because of the time limit that they imposed, I had 48 hours to pay in full, the letter was mailed on April 03/07 and I received it today on April 11/07.
Oh and they spelled my name wrong.
Anyhow Mr. Heenan if you are reading this I shall take your advice and govern myself accordingly......
You gotta love Transport Canada, not only did the coc.suckers bankrupt my company illegally they still have the audacity to try and extort another $880.00 from me.
So I shall just send this to Merlin Preuss and let him pay it.
I will send it double registered with a note explaining why I have no intention of paying it....and I shall send a copy to the Minister of Transport just to keep everyone in the loop.
