100LL 24/7

Post by SQ »

hi
I need you experience and knowledge :
I'm looking for a 24/7 100LL self service fuel pump around CYHU, CYYZ, CYBC, CYOW.

I found CYSH in the CFS and looking more inside, there's the CYYZ shell aerocenter which is open H24: do they sell 100LL, or the ESSO avitat ? No phone #, that's why I ask here.

Why ? to log my 25 hrs PIC night X country.
why not use a 172 with long range tank ? Because I want to organize my flights with time and fuel rate planning, make night approaches on uncontrolled and controlled airports that I don't know.

Tx

I think that Greenbank has had a card lock 100LL system installed. Grass strip with lights about 20 NM N of Oshawa.

Yes, CYSH has a brand-new credit card self-serve 100LL pump setup

4000 x 75 paved. Runway lights & VASI. 2 instrument approaches. No navcan/landing fees, no transponder code required. Uncontrolled airspace, don't have to talk to approach, no tower, no MF, just broadcast to traffic on 122.70 Mhz (if you have a comm radio - not legally reqd).

Current (non-member) price is 1.143/liter, all taxes in - try to beat that price.

P.S. Navcan/airport/ramp fees at CYYZ are certain to exceed $100.

Its not clear to me if you will be using a 172 or not. If you are planning on so much night cross crountry on a single engine, I suggest you become very selective on the nights you choose to go, don't overlook anything, because there isn't much room for error. Just be safe and plan ahead, and you'll be fine.

Try Carp. (CYRP)

The new FBO there has 24 hr card lock pumps and it's close to Ottawa. It's a ton of fun to fly the IFR approaches to Gatineau, Carp and Arnprior back-to-back-to-back. They go in three different directions from the same VOR!

Smith Falls is nice as well but be sure you're familiar with the Dwyer Hill restricted area between Ottawa and Smith Falls. They're a bit nasty about it these days.

Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they're not after you!

yes tango you're perfectly right : no room for errors, that's what's interesting, except engine failure.
and you're right again as to get sure everything is double checked before flying. I won't do that now, but I'll wait for spring (if it stills exist) to do those night trips.

hedley, thanks for the informations. I had them on the flying club's voice mail.

other info welcome.
