Working Ramp

Post by Pete »

With so much work now in the industry, are low-time guys still working the ramp waiting for seats? If so, are waits a lot shorter? Trying to figure out if I should get my group 1 IFR or instruct. I'm leaning towards instructing, the more I think about it the more I get enthuised about instructing but I don't want to rule out any other options before I get into it. I know there are old posts on this...but given the industry...what are everyone's opinion are what would offer the best experiences? Thanks

Yeah we are still working the ramp, where im at its going to be about a year or so before I get to fly. From what I hear the wait from ramp to a flying position has definatley gone down over the past few years, which is good. Ive heard of some places where the wait on the ramp is down to about 6 months. But I guess it depends on where you go/what company u work for......ALSO.....what kinda planes they operate.

I dont have any experience in the industry so I can really give you any advice, just what ive seen so far and what ive heard from friends.

But generally, the wait can be anywhere from 18 months to 6 months, again it depends on what company and stuff like that.

Anyways, good luck.
