I dont think you'll find anyone who made a jump like that, at least not recently. Many years ago AC and Jazz did hire low timers, but things are different now. It's not like in the USA where you can get hired with 600 hrs of instructing and go right seat in an RJ.
I've seen people go from instructing to Georgian and CMA on the 1900s, Flightexec, NAC, Wasaya, etc. In today's market, a move like this is reasonable with the right time. I remember 4-5 years ago when I was training, people had been instructing for up to 5 years before getting calls. Nowadays, most of my instructor friends that have moved onto king airs, pc12s, etc, had about 2 years experience with some multi PIC.

You can definitely get your ATPL by instructing. In fact, you may get it faster than some people that start as FOs because you can log the PIC time. However, just because you have an ATPL doesn't mean that you have the experience or qualifications to jump into an airline. Sorry to piss on you parade, but that's the way it works. Having said that, I wish you all the luck in the world. Instructing is fun and is a good way to build some PIC time.VMC_demo wrote:i just dont see why a person having 1500-1700hrs, ATPL, and a university degree cant get hired
im just starting my instructor rating, and regardless of what peope say, im not leaving instructing until i have my ATPL

NOPE, they'll take the next guy in line based on there seniority number(rate they were hired), they will only bypass somebody if the next guy in line doesn't have the experience for it.VMC_demo wrote:well still getting an ATPL from instructing is still better than any other way, Georgian, NAC, CMA....etc, wouldent they make a 1500hr ATPL instructor captain sooner than someone else? The PIC time has to help at some point
Sorry to tell you as well, but for companies like this, your instructing PIC time is useless. I would put the guy that has the northern gravel experience in the left seat before a guy that has PIC time from the right seat in a circuit.
Again sorry but thats just the way it is, you have no online experience in BAD weather on crap runways, to were some of the FO's that don't have an ATPL do have the experience.
cheers
Instruct for a bit, it's definately got some advantages. 1000hrs PIC and your night time is all you need. After that a right seat 1900 or King Air job will round out the experience. You won't get the upgrade until you have some time on the plane anyways and then when the upgrade time comes along you'll already have the requirements for the ATPL.
It's true what people are saying, an instructor with an ATPL just doesn't have the full package. On the other hand nor does a guy who's been sitting right seat since he had 200hrs and has never had to make a decision.

OK, before this post I thought you were a low timer asking serious question. Now I know you're just messing around with us.VMC_demo wrote:well still getting an ATPL from instructing is still better than any other way, Georgian, NAC, CMA....etc, wouldent they make a 1500hr ATPL instructor captain sooner than someone else? Many years ago(early 70,s) during my days at the Moncton flying school, EPA took flying instructors direct on to the Dart Herald(in today's world a DHC-08) and if my memory serves me correct the minimum required was a Senior Commercial License with a class 1 instrument rating. Air Canada took guys on with just a Commercial License with a Class 1 Instrument rating during that era as well. MFC was a popular place for sons of Air Canada pilots in those far away days that has aspirations for the S/O position on the DC-8. Of the many who went though, I remember just one or two assholes, the rest were good individuals…………

Why?regardless of what peope say, im not leaving instructing until i have my ATPL
Instructing isn't the only way to go, and arguably not even the best way to go. There's only one reason you should instruct: You should instruct because you want to instruct/because you enjoy instructing.
flyinhigh hit the nail on the head; you need to get some experience doing other stuff, too. I disagree that "instructing PIC is useless", but I think in a sense you need to 'validate' your instructing time by proving that you can work in a commercial operation as well.
I am curious to hear why you are so inclined to get an ATPL before leaving instructing?
